Default minimum stay

is there a "minimum stay clause" in the airlines in regards to new hires.. for example, if someone was to get hired, get trained, and then start working, are they committed to a period of time (sort of like the 1 year minimunm at Colgan)?

It all depends on the company. Some airlines have training contracts, others don't. Generally speaking, the regional airlines, where there is a lot of attrition as people move on to other (better) carriers have these type contracts.
