I think we, as pilots, are our own worse enemy at times.

Personally I can't wait for the looming pilot shortage, it would be nice to see what this country's response will be to an inability to find pilots.
Agreed. Biggest issue is finding a way for younger pilots to wise up and understand that SJS does not only apply to jobs making 20k or less.

With deregulation came those salary cuts to everyone but BOD members. It is up to us pilots to realize that:
* 1500 does not happen overnight
* Regionals are having a hard time filling classes
* These current pay scales are trash

The first step is knowing that you can be hired by the airline, but making a determination that what you will be given for flying with Airline X reflects what you feel should be offered.

If anyone cares to eat ramen while living in a crash pad between your 4 hour commutes, fine, but you arent exactly helping out the situation for anyone, yourself included.

Im 1350ish with 70 multi. Not going to buy those 30 hours to get an interview.

I fly pipeline and instruct on the side, and thats what Ill do until 1500 is law, at which point I will evaluate whether or not to head 121.

My hourly and daily rates are set based on what I feel I should be compensated for my skills. All in all to go regional airline FO right now would be a 60% pay cut, not to mention forking over 4k to get those 30 hours of 'experience.'

Outsider looking in, I know, but this is the game plan that I share with other pilots looking 121 right now without seeing the big picture two years from now.

How about you?
