Red Tails

Of course there are some Hollywood moments in it, but I can tell you that it is a better military type movie than anything coming out (or has come out) about aviation in a very long time!
This is of course my opinion and I claim no expertise as a movie critic except in my own house!

Yes. A complete waste of time and money. Definitely a $1 rental movie. This movie is an embarrassment to the Tuskegee Airman.
This is the worst military movie (that is supposed to be good and authentic) that I've ever seen. I don't know what the hell George Lucas was thinking. He should be ashamed of himself. The acting was horrible. The writing was amateurish. The plot was cliche. And nearly every scene was CGI created. It felt like they used one set ... a blue screen ... for the entire movie.
I watched it with four bubbas from my reserve unit. Two groups of people left during the middle of it. One of my friends wanted to leave, but he didn't drive so he patiently waited. When we walked out, we all sounded out a big "WOW!".
This movie was clearly a dumb downed version of the real story, intended to make a certain part of the population feel good about itself.

HBO's movie, Tuskegee Airmen tells the story better, has superior acting, and real airplanes flying in real flying scenes. Red Tails is a huge miss. If this is what it takes to get the younger generation to drop a video game and watch a history movie, we're in trouble.

If you want to see a motivating military movie that recently came out and not all CGI'ed up - go see 'Act of Valor' It will at the very least make you appreciate FIREPOWER

Here is a good comparison though. If you liked the action, reality -vs- Hollywoodisms of 'Blackhawk Down' and 'We Were Soldiers' - then you will enjoy 'Act of Valor'. I plan to add it to my collection of military movies when available, and there aren't many aviation related movies (at least of recent vintage) that I care to watch more than once if I can make it through at all. These comments about 'Red Tails' in the posts above certainly aren't instilling in me any great desire to go out and even pay the matinee price of admission; but I could have guessed that from the previews

I will agree that the made for HBO movie was well done though and I enjoyed it when I first saw it some time ago.

I'll have to see it again - but totally different obviously in many ways.

I think it's awesome you're allowed to watch something else besides 'Great Santini' now that you've retired.

Too much CGI from what I gather and it,s too bad they did not use real combat footage like they did in the movie 12 o' clock high and various other movies.
Looks like it's going to be a night at the movies with the wife to see 'Act of Valor'
