More:
4000 lbs.
300 hp
500+ lbs. torque
All electric range of 30 miles.
It is the Cross Coupe by VW. They will produce this vehicle, as well as the drive train for other vehicles. The drive train has a gas engine, as well as two electric motors, one in front, the other rear.

"All electric range of 30 miles", that really sums it up, short range, high cost and low demand.

The max range of this VW is 800 miles....as stated in the title.
Just like the Chevy Volt, this car is a hybrid. It has a gasoline tank and a gasoline engine. The 30 miles is an electric only range...so if you are driving short distances you may not have to use any gasoline at all.

Some more detail:
4wd when selected.
In the electric-only drive range, you can drive up to 75 mph. As a comparison, in the Volt or Prius, to be in electric-only drive you need to be going about 30 mph or less.

The VW is a nice car. My concern would be the cost. I'm personally waiting for the Ford Fusion plug-in

Until electricity comes from non fossil sources (nuclear, hydro, wind, and solar... in that order), an electric car is just a way for the holier than thous to tell you how "clean" their car is. It will take a long time for 50 mpg Prius to recoup the energy required to build it versus a solid late model car that makes 30 mpg highway.
And don't forget, the US has a whopping 2-3% of the worlds lithium reserves. At least with oil, we produce around a quarter of what we use.
