The United 757 coming into EWR on the PHLBO today. This jack wagon slowed to 200kts around 15000' "for bumps" (no worse than continuous light...) and then asked for 20 right to go around a tiny cloud just outside of DYLAN, the tops were 8500-9000. The airplane behind him went right through it and reported light turbulence no precip. We weren't even painting it on the radar.
Because of this, we and every airplane behind had to enter a hold. The controller was ****ed and made it clear everyone was holding for United backing things up. Freaking pilots forget they are IFR certified. I hate flying with these guys who have to go around every cloud they see. |
Cool of the day: the controller who, shortly after departure cleared me direct destination.
Tool of the day: the next controller who gave me an almost 90 degree turn and "resume your original route". I know, I know, things happen. |

You are instrument rated right? Clouds aren't really toxic fumes you know*... * Going into EWR, they may well be toxic fumes, but that's another discussion;) |

It's not about being instrument rated, it's about doing a little extra not to scare the crap out of the people riding behind you who pay your salary. Everyone here can fly through a cloud as well as you can, superstar. That's not the point. |
