That guy sure was concentrating on the approach. I've never seen anybody wear a hat in the cockpit. I don't see a problem with the tie though. I keep mine on. I don't understand why people take them off.

Hats? to hide the bald spots.

Ties? To wipe the gravy of the chin.

The best reason not to wear a tie is a security reason. Wear a tie in a fight and I'll break your neck. I wear a clip on for that very reason. Not wearing one also helps my shirts last an extra day.

So you don't wear a tie in the cockpit because you might get in a fight? I haven't been in a fist-fight in the cockpit in at least few months.

I'm not sure how not wearing one helps the shirt last another day - please enlighten.

In case of an attack on the cockpit, the tie becomes a handy tool to whip a pilot's head about like a chihuahua on a leash. It's really not that complicated.

It's more comfortable off, as well. I don't know about you, but I generally like comfortable.

How do they get to your leash behind the locked cockpit door?

Because those doors have never accidentally come open in flight.
