The divorce cost me north of $250k and I was not wealthy at the time. Run. Far. Away.

Second wife is much better. Realizes I'm gone for months at a shot, even more than when I was on active duty (we were dating/living together when I was still on AD, got married after I got out), deals with having to get things at the house fixed, moved when I was out of the country working in Dubai, etc.

She was never clingy/needy like your GF is. Not when I was gone, not when I was around to make up for it when I was gone.
excellent post

How long has this relationship been going on...sounds new. A spouse/girlfriend in this business needs to be strong, independent and trusting. If its worth it...it'll develop.

Okaaaaay, this thread has turned classic.

If I had a dollar for every male who cried on my shoulder that he got "taken" by a predatory female, I'd be a very wealthy woman. If you're a troll and your girlfriend is "smokin' hot," start thinking with your big head for a change. You'll save yourself lots of money and misery.

Anyhoo, i found that dating others in aviation is the only way to go! Who better to understand the lifestyle and not be clingy/jealous?!

BTW, you guys do know that men can be equally as jealous, clingy, possessive and untrusting---right?

very good points, I might add, the following apply to both sexes, when searching/screening for a long term partner

- Good, loving, stable family versus not

- Financially secure and/or knows what a budget is and that money does not grow on trees, no credit card problems etc versus the opposite

- loves you for you, not your job or material things

- physical aspect "has to be there" nobody in their right mind can accept sex only on birthday's and anniversaries

- conducts themselves professionally, doesn't go to the mall or Starbucks dressed like a slob or homeless person, takes pride in their health, appearance, etc. No f-bombs every 5 words when talking. Can form a sentence longer than three words and carry on a conversation. etc

- emotional control but not a robot. not a nut case either. balance

- trustworthy and honest

BOTH sexes should search for this in a partner

I work with a guy that has been married for a few years and actively cheats on his wife, monthly it seems, on the road. Baffles me why he even stays married?

I know lots of pilots that cheat on their wives.. hence why I put monogamous in the original question

I have NUMEROUS buddies who fell victim to the above scenario. "She has 4 nut job brothers/sisters, her dad left her mom, and her mom is an alcoholic...thank god my GF ended up the normal one

This statement made me laugh. I have tons of friends who are already married and have children. I am only 27 so i agree with you on the being 30 part. Just don't see what the rush is. Maybe get it right the first time?
