That is an excellent recruitment video for women in aviation. Show it to girls in middle school.

Although the COVID-19 will have a major impact for the next couple of years, by the time we reach the mid 2020’s, the industry will be back in a strong hiring mode.

If it is the second paragraph, about what year do you anticipate hiring being back in a strong hiring mode?

If it is the first paragraph, what problem do you have with a positive role model video for girls to open their eyes? They may never have seen or met a woman airline pilot. If we wait until they become 23 year old women, it may be too late for making a career choice.

 

Compared to every other airline, HAL has the highest percentage of females in their pilot group. All are awesome role models for Hawaii’s youth. No doubt a lot of the young kids in the video will grow up to be pilots like their mothers.

 

A couple of years ago I was checking in to a hotel. The woman at the front desk was in her mid 20s. She said she wished she was allowed to be a pilot. I asked why? She sincerely said it was against the law for a woman to be a pilot. Also, since she was Hispanic, no airline would be permitted to hire her.

I asked where she got that incorrect idea. She said, you mean I would be allowed? My uncle kept beating me down every time I looked overhead and said I wish I was flying that plane. He told me it was illegal. She was absolutely serious.

We live in a different environment. Some kids grow up with family and neighbors telling them they cannot do stuff. Showing a girl this video could just cause her to question the falsehoods she has been told to believe.

Incidentally, I told her it was not too late. Gave her information on how to get starting taking private pilot lessons. I hope she opens her eyes, she seemed smart and level headed. Would hate to see her on the front desk of a hotel years from now, having wasted her abilities.

 

Who’s to say someone working at the front desk is wasting their abilities? Maybe they enjoy that. Not everyone thinks being a pilot is cool. It’s actually a rather tough job if you want a family or stability, not very appealing for women. People shouldn’t be persuaded to do anything including female pilot propaganda. This is a free society as well as progressive times. Women know they can be pilots, they don’t need to be told what to do.

You missed key points. She said (voluntarily) she really wished she could have been a pilot. She was very strong in this statement. Secondly, she said very clearly she was told by family that she could not be a pilot, it was illegal as a woman. She had accepted this as factual.

You are coming from your perspective. You assume she is aware of what you know. She made it clear to me she did not know this.
