Where we were when we got in that base, is where we were stuck. Any CA that bid west coast or retired from NY (literally like one per year) was replaced by some uber-senior CA from the west coast who wanted east. It didn't take long to figure out that NYC was a career dead end for a FO. I enjoyed my time, wouldn't have traded it for anything, but closing NYC meant CA on the west coast.

We're a pretty chill group of guys n gals. In almost a decade flying here, there's maybe 1 pilot I wouldn't happily fly with again, and to be honest, I think he got fired a while back. I'm really happy that AS and HA are combining for a number of reasons, but an important one is I think it will reinforce that crew dynamic which makes leaving home for 4 days much easier.
