Sorry guys, this is a bad deal for you all. Alaska will make promises with a sly smile then break their word continually. They will erode your quality of life, send your airplanes back, close your bases, and tell you that you should work for less because you aren’t delta. Best advice I can give, get your apps in at delta or united and try to latch on to this hiring wave. Good luck

Will you take your own advice? You sound absolutely miserable to be at AS. I'll even give you links. Here you go:

Hiring effect
Sooo... do you think this will be seen as a negative or a positive with regards to hiring and the desire of new pilots desire to take the risk and jump on board with HAL. I would think it's a long term negative if your end goal was to be a widebody Captain one day. Now if your goal was to be based in SEA or ANC then it's a win.

Haha yeah it’s going to be completely different. Alaska wants to start wide body international flying like I want to be buddies with minicucci… remember this prediction in about 5 years… the Hawaiian brand will be dead, the airbii will be rehomed, the international flying will be a mere fraction of what it already is and will vanish once the widebodies are cancelled/rehomed.
Honolulu won’t close a a base but only because it now gives the company a way to avoid expensive layovers . All Hawaii flying will be done by Hnl based crews. Bad news for alaska guys who like Hawaii flying.

If they get rid of HAL, all that would do is hand it all over to SWA. I'm certain they intend to make a go of it, time will tell how it all works out.
Ala5ka, and others, were understandably bitter about how VX went down but that's done, things are looking up contractually for the time being and I think many of us think this is a win/win. At least has the potential.
