We all need to say NO to this kind of crap.
I met a guy the other day who works for one of the big simulator training outfits and he said the increase in single pilot citation training was amazing.
More and more citation operators out there are trying to cut costs by operating some of the eligible citations with only one pilot.
We need to say NO to this also.
We have to think seriously about improving things in this industry, it will take an effort from all of us.
Let em do it 1 pilot, when a few die because the pilot had a medical emergency, seizure, missed something because he was alone....etc....they will reconsider, its the reason there are 2 pilots to begin w

The Captain is posting it, not the owner. He is trying to help a young guy out. They will pay for hotels, food, etc... It is meant for someone who is very, very entry level...

Still working for time that's worthless and not being paid for it.

There are lots of jobs out there for very, very entry level people that actually pay.

To quote someone who posted in another thread:

"The man who flies for free knows his worth."

i'll drink to that! anyone who would spend the time and money to get the certs you need to make a living at flying airplanes, should be ashamed to do this for the "experince." I have mouths to put food in that also require a roof to shelter them from rain. I'd rather not pick through trashcans for their dinner, and shop the back of the grocery store for the latest used fruit boxes to keep the heat from the trash can fire going. dang, i'm thats whitty

He is not working... He is riding along. All of you would have done it at one point.

Actually, you couldn't be more wrong with that statement taylorjets. That guy sitting in the right seat is likely the one getting coffee, ice, cleaning the plane. That sounds like work to me.

Absolutely not. Would have never considered it actually.

I never gave flying away for free. Not as a CFI, not as a Professional. I did not give my friends or fellow instructors freebies or discounts.

If he isn't really "working", why is that position posted on an aviation JOB web site??
There is no rationale to excuse what is ultimately a blatant attempt at cost reduction. You should really be less naive lest management take full advantage of your "oh well, it's no big deal" attitude......

I have to agree, it is a "ride along", but I have no problem with this. I was a volunteer in the Civil Air Patrol for 5 years and I'm SURE no one was going to complain because they were rescued by a "volunteer pilot" or "volunteer ground team", if the crashed in some remote area. I also had the opportunity to fly "ride along", as you call it, for six months and build over 100 hours of very valuable experience in 135 freight operation, CRM and flight in all kinds of weather. If I remember right, I spent 30-40 thousand dollars on my Bachelor's degree and flight training, and did not get no where near the experience that I have in my "volunteer" positions. Not to mention, what would it cost for an additional 100 hours of flight training in a Beech 1900. In today's job market, I say do what ever you have to, to gain experience. I only hope that some future employer will consider the fact that I sat in the right seat of a Beech 1900, in basially advanced IFR and CRM training, and consider my "volunteer" experience over that of the person that has been "riding along" right seat in a Cessna 172 day after day in VFR conditions teaching. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against instructing, but experience is experience, whether you pay for it or you get it for free, and experience is the name of the game in today's job market.
