Default This can't be legal!?

Just wondering if anyone has any info on the APHIS/WS pilot position? Looks like their job is wildlife management via piper aircraft. Looks a little different then your typical aviation job.

Here is the link to the job with all of the information. What problem do you see with this position that it "can't be legal?"

...figure of speech

. . . in a helo here but you get the idea. Pretty Crazy!

I saw some accident figures, was wondering if they hire low time pilots or is the job really not that safe? None the less looks interesting.

GS-9 is the lowest pay grade. You should have 1200 hours for this.

They're the government. Since you don't need the FAA ratings if you have military time, I'm guessing it's a Public Use aircraft.

Basically, this is "Aerial Hunting", or "Gunning". I applied for a similar job with the FED about a year ago, but it didn't require the 500hrs CFI experience. The position canceled before they started the interview process for some reason. After I applied I did some research to find that this is a pretty controversial, unpopular practice. It's a job you wouldn't want to tell too many people about as the greenie weenies and the PETA types would make your life hell. I ran across one web site a year ago (but can't find it now) where they tracked a plane from the ground documenting his every move. It's also pretty dangerous (low and slow), and it's highly illegal....unless you work for the government! Do a Google search on "Aerial Hunting" and you will see what I mean. Here is one site I found:

Aerial Gunning Fact Sheet

I just remembered one web site, that I can't find now, that said a lot of the Aerial Hunting accidents were cause by the gunner shooting his own plane! LOL
