Same thing here...
"Thank you for applying on our external vacancy announcement, AAC-NOE-10-AJW3300-118941, Airspace System Inpection Pilot, FG-2181-11/13. Qualified individuals with veterans' preference were referred to the selecting official. Non-preference eligibles may not be selected as long as preference eligibles are still available and interested. I am sorry to inform you that, at this time, your application was not included in the group that was referred. Additional information on veterans' preference in hiring can be located at U.S. Office of Personnel Management Veterans Information." The search continues.... |
No non-military pilots
I spoke with a friend of mine who is in this department in the FAA. He walked my resume in and wrote me a letter of recommendation. He confirmed today that they only pilots hired were prior military. He said they would be looking again in about 6 months, but that military preference would probably be first based on the way the applications are scored.

I was active duty USMC from 1979 to 1985,but it appears from the FAA airline operations inspector application you do not get the veterans preference unless you were active duty during certain periods. ( Viet Nam Gulf War ect) I guess in federal hiring there is a big difference between just being prior military or having served during the qualifying periods. Anyone know anything more about this?

Here is a very comprehensive site about Veterans Preference. It should give you the answer to any question or give you a rudder steer to another source of information. U.S. Office of Personnel Management Veterans Information USMCFLYR |
For those concerned:
For those that got the Thanks but No thanks, I am sorry. I applied for ACY and have not heard anything but that my application was recieved. I was told by Nancy Curtis (30 DEC) that they were still evaluting the passed applications. And from someone that has always given me the straight scoop on 31 DEC: From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Thursday, December 31, 2009 9:48 AM Subject: RE: FW: ASIP POSITION WITH FAA Happy New Year! We have not received the qualify list from HR yet, hope to have that next week. I don't know when we will be doing interviews. Got the thanks but no thanks letter today. Only had a 5 point preference. I start my Casa 212 job on March 1st, so no biggie.
|
Yep, got that letter too. Ah well.
|
Got the dreaded letter myself on Tuesday. Talked to some folks today and they told me only 10 pointers made the list, no 5 pointers. USMCFLYR you still in the game??
