Default Trying to get back in the game

Just wanted to drop a quick note to see what everyone thought of my situation:

I used to fly for Air Wisconsin, an RJ Captain based in IAD, but walked away 5 years ago to pursue aircraft sales in my hometown with the idea of being home every night & making more money. Long story short, I can't do the office/ sales job anymore, getting burned out on that and the thought of flying for a living again appeals to me. I am open to a corporate job/Fractional job- not necessarily the airlines. Who's hiring right now? Anyone else out there in the same predicament? How should I go about getting back in the game?

Unfortunately, now isnt the right time to "get back in the game". There are plenty of guys right now looking for a job that are current and qual'd in different AC with no luck (myself included). If you have your CFI's that would be the best route. Bottom line get back in any cockpit and get flying.

Good luck.

It's always the right time to get back. You're not going to get hired right away, but you can start your comeback now. The problems you'll face are currency (beg. brorrow or steal a way to get at the controls), you'll have to explain why you left and why you want to come back (this was the hardest thing to do for my friends that went through it too) and you'll have to overcome your own feelings about leaving as a RJ captain and starting over at a much lower standing in the profession.

Hey man, I was in almost the same situation as you, and it worked out well for me. I did not fly anything for 3 years, but was able to get a job working at a fractional for a few months to get current and then got my current job as a Legacy Captain. Just update all your stuff, sign up on some job sites (I used climbto350), and bug people. There were a bunch of other qualified people that were current but they hired me and spent the money on re-typing me which cost them a bundle. You never know, so good luck and keep us posted!

thanks for the replies! I am currently working on updating my resume, and the good news is that I am current on a couple a/c- I just had to learn the hard way that a desk/sales job isn't for me- I will keep you posted on my progress and thanks again!

Please, please, please take some time to learn about the culture of 91 and 135 operations. Don't be that guy who tries to take the airline culture to 91/135 ops. Thanks.
