I did laugh when I read that luv. When I left the Navy in 08 and hiring stopped I took a contractor job that has since turned into a GS position and I'm still flying in the reserves(Hornets). Life is pretty good. I'm home every night I dont choose to be gone on travel or on a training detachment with the navy and I'm home on the weekends. That said, I gave it much thought but in the end QOL won out, not to mention the stability/job security and 2 Gov't pensions.

I suppose Wal-Mart is always an option!

I got the call too and was told everyone in the first week of August was getting the call. Option is to keep your current date and interview anyway. Or get first calls next year to come interview.

Just curious what you decided to do...any benefits to either one?

So they've stopped interviewing before anyone new actually hit the property. Not very reassuring.

Original estimates were for about 150 off-the-street hires this round to hit the 305 hiring number after flows and furlough returns. Interviewing 12 a day, 4 days a week for five weeks with about a 60% success rate puts the number hired after this week at just less than 150 (and 60% is just an estimate based of anecdotal info.) I'm not surprised they held to the 305 number going into the seasonal flying pulldown. It is still the only number put out through official sources. Anything else is (mostly uninformed) speculation and rumors.

Don't think there are really any benefits to either way really. I chose to just go ahead and do it. I am already in the mindset for it.

Good luck, I think it's a wise decision - why go through the pain twice?

Anybody know how many months they are going to run classes, I have heard Aug-Dec.

Sounds like you've got it figured out!

I only said walmart greeter because that is what you list as your "currentt position", so I thought there must be some benefit over the DAL job.....

Where do you live for the contractor job? IOW, do you have to travel for your reserve gig?
