Default Wrong ATP class/category

My original ATP was ATP-AMEL with Commercial priveleges -ASEL/Inst. It was originally issued in 1999. I have gotten a few types over the years which have driven several ATP card reissues. So last week I happen to read the back of my license and it states ATP-ASEL/AMEL with no mention of Commercial privileges. I'm thinking this is obviously an error as I have not taken an ATP checkride in any single-engine aircraft, at least not to my knowledge. My fault for not paying more attention over the years, but it appears I now have an extra rating which I did not earn.

Anybody else ever encounter this? Was it easy to correct? I have no idea which FSDO I went thru. Obviously, I'm concerned it might come up during an interview so I'd like to get some documentation rolling now to fix the issue.

Thanks-

KC

Check out the FAA website. I'm sure they have a POC. You could go to your FSDO, but I suspect they will refer you to OKC.

But nobody really cares about ASEL ATP...teats on a boar hog.

Have you looked to see if it was just printed wrong or is it actually in the FAA's system? I've run into lots of printing errors.

Like rickair said, "Who cares?" In fact, if the FAA incorrectly has you listed as having an ATP-ASEL you've now got a "better" ticket than a Commercial/Inst. So again, why downgrade yourself, not that you'll probably ever need a ATP-ASEL, but hey, you just never know what life will throw your way.

I checked on faa.gov and it reads the same as my license.

I agree with all said above, normally I would not care. I guess my paranoid thinking is what if a HR person asks me during an interview, "so what did you get your ATP-ASEL in?". Obviously lying is out of the question but that could make an interview go south when I admit I have a rating I did not earn.

I know it is remote, but I've heard people being asked about other less important ratings, like float plane or glider before. I have only about 500 hrs SEL, no turbine.

I need to go to the FSDO next month to renew my CFI and am going to get it corrected.

Thanks for the input!

I've got a bunch of types issued before the circling limitation became standard. Then when I got the -400 type it had the limitation on the temp. When the card came it wasn't there. Got a number for the Airman Certification Branch in OKC. Live person picked the phone up on the thrid ring. I explained what happen, she looked some stuff up in under a minute and said they'd send a corrected certificate. Got it in less then a week.

They make mistakes. Always check the temp and the permanent. I wouldn't just let it ride. If someone ever pulls your file and looks through the 8710s and sees that there is not one for the ATP-SEL, that would be hard to explain.

I would not touch it at all. I had my middle name skipped once on my certificate, it took me 6 months to correct it, and a lot of mess in my FAA records. If asked one day, explain what happen. Chances are, if you have so many types on your ATP, you are a seasoned flyer, nobody cares about your SE ATP or Com. Just move on, don't sweat.

If you haven't done so, load all of your certificate info into the IACRA on the FAA site. It simplifies applying for new certificates and ratings, that new CFI for instance. You can also log in to check on certificates and issue dates, it's quite handy.
