I stand corrected.

So is it safe to say that hiring is done until the NEO's arrive? Cheers, HAL was my dream job, 0 for 3

literally a handful... retirements at HAL are not much more than 5-10 a year for a decade or more...

If I took a closer look I think I've moved "up" 50+ numbers in 2.5 years...

Those getting hired for the NEO expansion will be FO's for a long time (provided we are not bought, sold, merged)

Anyone on the list now "should" be either a junior NEO/717 Cpt, or senior widebody FO by 2020ish. With the next contractual pay increase it will be better to be an FO than it is currently.. $$$$ wise

Could be worse....

This is all assuming everything remains as scheduled

pretty fair assessment Kingairfun.. I've heard rumors of as many as 400 more for the "expansion" and as few as 200... depends on how much of the 717 II flying is replaced by NEO, and how fast 767's retire.. and are replaced by 321's...

But retirements alone here at HAL won't begin to hit the 20's a year for well over a decade

Yeah the NEO/717 replacement is a good question...

IF we hire only 200 that puts us at 800+ by 2020... Say 60% captain ratio puts us at around 480 Captains total... Factor in

-career FO's,
- those not wanting to do west coast Captain vs. FO widebody international,
-and even only 50 retirements over the next five years

Those junior on the list now should be looking at atleast an outside captain slot or a nice widebody QOL...

If we hire 400ish... Then yeah, we will all have an upgrade opportunity.

But I'd definitely say anyone hired in 2017 will be doing a long sit in the right seat pending a merger etc..

Yeah only most of the slots are FO... It's more like 40% CA. Remember they 3-man crew a lot of long haul with 1 CA and 2 FO... I wish it were the other way. Plus they always run ultra lean in CAs and payout double time to guys to keep the roster lean.
