Mesaba New Hire Pool?
Anyone have any idea what the pool is for? They are taking the guys with 1000TT into Colgan classes but those under 1000 are stuck in the pool. If they have nothing for them to go into what is the pool for? Seems like Mesaba isn't hiring and Colgan is (yes I understand they are technically the same).
Could they maybe throw you into a Pinnacle class?

It's probably because they don't want to hire into the Saab on the Mesaba side since they are going away.

It's because at the moment management believes (questionably) that Mesaba is properly staffed, however Pinnacle and Colgan are both admittedly horribly understaffed (and Mesaba therefor as the "reserves to cover" is being stretched too thin as well) The problems are that the FAA has mandated minimums well above normal and at this point possible at Colgan. So the theory was interview anyone willing, and hire anyone with the Colgan mins to Colgan ASAP, everyone else that passes the interview goes into the pool in hopes they are still around when things get better sorted out, IE when things shuffle enough that allows them to be brought on to either Mesaba or Pinnacle's certificate where the min hour restrictions don't exist as at Colgan.

"Legal" minimums, as far as I know, don't really mean much aside from what you need to have a commercial certificate with instrument and multi-engine ratings. I am under the impression that the hiring minimums are more of an insurance consideration, and change depending on how much the company is willing to pay for insurance, which changes with how desperately they need pilots. This is speculation, and I could absolutely be wrong here, though. Maybe someone more knowledgable can enlighten me on this.

The Mesaba name will change to Colgan long before it changes back to Mesaba. And at that point it is a name change only, so I would say no. But maybe the XJ injection into Mgmt., training, and Flight Ops will change their FSDOs mind.

Not sure where your information is coming from, but the plan is for the Colgan name to go away. It will technically be Colgan's certificate that gets all the aircraft, then changes its name to Mesaba. That's the plan this week, anyway.
