Had a chq jumper into sdf last week. Fo. Kept talking about the"shortage" and how (get this) he WILL (yes, WILL) be an international wide body legacy captain in (wait for it)........ 5(five years).

Massive pilot demand
We all hope there will be a pilot shortage and their just might be. However I do not think it will translate to a better situation for pilots. In the past we have learned that when things get tight for the airlines rather that increase wages to attract more pilots they tend to lower hiring minimums.
My guess is that in the near future we will see cadet programs like they have in Europe and foreign pilots flying here for peanuts. China is building massive aviation universities capable of cranking out thousands upon thousands of humble obedient hotel room sharing pilots every year.
See book: China Airborne
In America I believe that the airlines will seek approval for the creation of a new form of pilot certification that greatly abbreviates training through focusing almost exclusively on one transport category air frame from day one.
The airlines will hire people off the street with zero experience and put them in procedures trainers and the simulator. No piston, VFR or solo stuff. Training from day one in the transport category airplane you will fly on the line. Imagine how much you could cut from flight training. The licence would then be restricted to the specific airline position and airframe. The pay off for the airlines would be their dream come true. An imprisoned work force that has absolutely no power at all.
It is hard to say what the future will bring. However I can't see it making things better for pilots. Just more jobs that no one wants.

Oh, well pardon me all over the place. And I'm sure you can understand him just fine; both figuratively and literally. Btw, stick to the topic please. The shortage is a myth. Only juveniles will believe it and that's all they need to believe it. Have fun living in squalor newbies!

Btw, nowhere did anyone make the pilot shortage about legacy airlines. Well, you did, but....
I have little doubt the majors will all have plenty of pilots. But the regionals and foreign carriers are going to be hurting for qualified applicants.

Oh boy, they hooked yet another one. I disagree with these so-called "facts". Legacies will shrink. Face it, that 150k education that you got at riddle or dca is gonna bear fruit as a regional captain at best. Btw, how can anyone even understand bryan williams with his deviated septum.....argh.
Your statement about regional captain is silly. Even if legacies shrink, SOMEONE will still have to be the pilot. SOMEONE is filling that position. I'm sorry that someone wasn't you and you are extremely jaded about that, but it still doesn't give any conclusive evidence as to why there might not be a pilot shortage.

I'm about 50/50 on the shortage issue. Depends on the day. Where I see the disconnect with you (no judgement) is... "the mob" thinks even IF their is a pilot shortage, the current pilots may still not benefit. And they are MAD.
