+1....the application is the first step in weeding out the ones that don't really want the job or won't be able to make it through training, at JB or elsewhere.

Hmmm, just went back to my Candidate Profile to upload a personal reference, and can't find any mention of my internal recommendation.
When I originally filled out the app, it asks where you heard about JetBlue, I didn't choose referral, I hadn't talked to my buddy about a recommendation yet.
But, I forwarded on the email an he said he submitted a referral. Will it show up anywhere that I can see it?
Thanks!

I'm so curious how the end of 2013 and all of 2014 turn out. I'm an active duty Air Force guy, 2000TT F-16 & T-38 instructor. I'm getting my ATP and 737 type to help boost my resume for many carriers' consideration. I know jetBlue doesn't fly them, but that couldn't hurt my broad search, right?
Anyway, I'm not eligible for hire until the 1st half of 2014. Maybe my online app I submitted will stay put and just grow over this year so I can be ready to join you guys who get picked up in 2013.
Question for anyone qualified to answer--what's it like to fly an E190 with the bicycle style control wheel?
Cheers!

Get your ATP! The 737 type doesn't matter, although it shows you can get through a training program. I did the ATP/737 type because GI Bill paid for it.
Gotta get your hours up, some places do a military conversion (JetBlue, Atlas, United, Delta) to name a few, others don't. I know as a fighter guy, you're not going to get over 3000TT before you get out, but get as much as you can. Shouldn't have a problem with meeting JetBlue's mins, but a lot of guys applying will have 5, 6, 7 thousand hours.
Network. Network. Network!! Talk to buddies who've gotten out, especially guys who you've flown with and are at the airlines. It's all about internal recommendations.
I did bad and didn't keep up a logbook. I let SARMs do it for me, and now I'm just using my HARM printouts. No worries if you haven't kept up a logbook, just make a copy of your HARM printout and get it bound at Kinko's.
Put your apps in everywhere, and then periodically update them, put in your availability date as well. I missed the FedEx application window by a week because I didn have my ATP yet and I wasn't gettin out for a bit. Get your name out there.
Go to job fairs! If you don't have any internal recs, it's the only way at some places to get your foot in the door. You'll learn tons about how the civilian side works, the types of guys there and how to present yourself.
CHECK YOUR EGO AT THE DOOR! I was Chief Pilot of my squadron, instructor, evaluator, pretty much the expert and top guy when a tough mission or tough student presented them self. Now, I'm just one more lowly guy trying to get a job. Don't look down on getting a job at a regional, you may need to so you can boost your total time. If you do, you'll have Captains you'll fly with that are younger, less trained, less qualified, less capable. Doesn't matter, they were hired before you and they outrank you.
I just retired, am hunting for my next career at an airline.
It's pretty exciting, I'm pumped about getting on somewhere and starting my second career. You'll be just as excited!!
Good luck and let me know if you've got any questions.
