I just did a full week up in Bethel and loved it. I'm headed back up this Thursday to do my first full two week shift.

In my first week, I averaged 5 hours of flying per day, but that included two days of training/checkride and a few mornings of waiting for weather and/or mx. The days where I wasn't sitting around in training or waiting for weather/mx, I logged 6.5+ hours per day.

Its probably the best option as far as experience and development of good decision making skills. Your skills will literally double your first shift. Now if you learned at a 141 in the south with zero weather experience and never flown through a cloud it will be a tough transition. VFR in Alaska is basically 500' and 2 miles and you will shoot many special vfr approaches with 1 mile visibility. There will be many days Guys have to go missed on an IFR approach and you will fly right in on a special(thank god for Sierra arrivals and departures or Bethel would be a cluster). So if you don't have a good instrument scan, I would develop one.

As mentioned, we're doing a lot of 600-2 VFR flying. First day I was a bit skeptical (as any low time pilot should be) but it really is flat as sh!t up there so you're good if you keep the blue side up. For when we did file, I ended up logging around 12 hours of actual IMC and 10 approaches last week.

Can somebody provide me with the minimums for pilot position with Ravn/Hageland? College kid with wet commercial looking to get on as SIC and build some time up in Alaska possibly.

This has been answered multiple times. At least 5 people in my class got hired with less than 300TT.

Not a redbird. It's technically an FAA Level B FFS, but it doesn't really do a great job of mimicking the actual plane. That being said, it was great for learning the flows and getting used to the cockpit. Everything felt the same when I got in the actual plane for the first time.

+90h per month, dang that's good. Will that slow down a little bit during thw hardcore winter?

Thank you! Grant buys your tickets back and forth to Alaska, so as someone who was commuting from Atlanta it was a huge deal. Puerto Rico sounds fun!

Dang long commute. I tried many times with Grant but not a word. You fly 50-60h a month with Air Flamenco, you'll fly more than that but hey.... Beaches and flip-flops all year round compensate

Where's the info that says they will pay for your transportation to and from Alaska? Sounds like a doable gig if that's the case.

Thanks,
Jamie

Hageland doesn't. Grant does after you pass training. Is this what you're referring to?

Javichu,

Where are you training on the island?

dasheight300 06-14-2017 11:13 AM

Yes. I looked at their site, but I didn't see anything about them paying for transportation.

Its on the APC page and I confirmed it w/ the chief pilot yesterday during the interview. They will keep doing this until Grant gets full CASS benefits. Right now Grant is cabin only CASS.

Hey man, sorry I didn't answer tour message. I've had 48h to pack my life, do magic on my storage and get ready.
I meet with my new boss on friday so I've no idea yet. I guess somewhere in San Juan haha.
You go there on vacation?

No problem, I can imagine all the last minute details to be handled.

I'm heading over to San Juan for the weekend from Aguadilla (west side of the island). We will be spending a couple of nights there while checking out some sights.

I figured if you were training in the San Juan area I could buy ya a welcome to the island beer. Aside from the international airport, there is the isla grande airport and I believe AF flies out of there as well and could potentially be a training location.

Ok, well some people are saying that people are only getting hired with 500+ hours and they aren't receiving class dates yet, so there's some conflicting data.

To clarify, I had 700 hours at time of interview. Got an offer two weeks later, but it is now 2+ months later and I do not have a class date or an offer letter in the mail, just the email offer. Looks like most of us have accepted offers elsewhere.

Still doing a lot of 600/2 flying in the vans?

I threw my hat in the SIC pool at the beginning of the month, but haven't heard a word from them, not even a confirmation. Has anyone else put in as an SIC recently and heard anything? I know the next SIC class is already full but haven't heard much else.

I wouldn't count on it being full. Communication from their HR department is few and far in between, so you just need to be patient

The sleds definitely are; after another week up here I'd say the vans are filing IFR more often than not.

I too threw my hat in the SIC mix recently. According to their website the next C208 SIC class is in September, so perhaps there will be something in the next month or two...

I was just referencing this post from another thread about the July ground school being full

The final candidate list for July ground school will be published no later than June 19, 2017. Within the next few weeks I will ascertain how many SICs will be a part of our next ground school.

Potential SIC's: I have already hired a group of SICs that I have not assigned a ground school date to which is why we do not have room for any new SICs in our July ground school.

For those of you that have already been hired, we will have your ground school date to you in writing no later than June 19th.

Really appreciate all of your interest!

Erin
