Send your resume in. Typically fax works well.

PrettyFlyGuy 01-21-2016 12:38 PM

I mailed in my application and resume which ended up going to the chief pilot at Ravn. He had me email my resume to the chief pilot at Hageland, William.
Any idea of the best way to get noticed here?
Thanks

That's the guy who is in charge of hiring. I don't know when our next class is.

Is it possible to do month on month off in the bush?

I think it's unlikely. You might be able to do some shift trading to make it work.

There's something important missing from this thread. Where is skyhigh to tell everyone that they're making a horrible mistake?

Hope he's OK...not like him to miss an Alaska flying thread. Usually if you say Alaska three times he magically appears.

:):):)

Didn't he go off to drive trains or something?

What's the best way to apply to Ravn? Applied through the website a few weeks ago and haven't heard anything. Also emailed the chief pilot (aaron) about a week ago. Still nothing... 1400TT ~750 turbine

TBirdie 04-12-2016 11:16 AM

To all you who snail mailed or faxed their resume and cover letter in... What was the time frame you all heard back in? I tried calling the office to check on it, but they said they don't take calls on applications. It's been little over two weeks. I snail mailed it. Lol Should I fax it too? Hageland to Ravn has been my #1 company since mid instrument rating!

Best bet is to have someone walk in a resume. They typically only contact people when they are ramping up for a class.

For folks applying at the various Alaska-based 135 companies: be patient, polite, and persistent when following up on your application. That being said, none of the companies have dedicated recruiters, and the person who reviews your resume will also have dozens of other responsibilities which may make it hard to get back to you in a timely manner.

So don't get antsy if you don't get a response as quickly as you might like. Eventually, your resume will get read and dispositioned, and you should get a response.

I second this. Also it's very cyclical and hiring season is beginning, being available at the right time and place can make a big difference. Also knowing someone who can walk in a resume makes a big difference.

Sounds like the next class will be in July.

Options

For those that are in the area and looking for something to fill the gap as well as put in a good word with Hageland, I have an idea.
A company called Fly Around Alaska (formerly Artics Air Academy) is in good standing with Hageland. They guarantee a interview with Hageland for their commercial/instrument students that want one and are working on a guaranteed spot with Hageland upon receiving these ratings.
They operate a Cherokee Six for mountain tours of Denali and are growing rapidly, which means 135 and instructor pilots are needed. They offer their instructors and 135 pilots a position with Hageland if they prove themselves with Fly Around Alaska.
Might be something to look into if you need a job in the mean time.

Hope this helps

Thanks guys for the response! I just saw this... They emailed me shortly after that message, but I'm in this aerial survey contract and they are really keeping me till the end-end lol. I emailed them today though! Hopefully I'm headed up that way next month to get a float rating with my Dad, so I'll stop by the office an say hi with an updated resume in hand.

But low time pilots reading this-- Do aerial survey for a season, then go to the 135 jobs. It's great experience and you will gain so much confidence. Its painful being gone so much, but you really get to see a lot and are thrown into a lot of stressful situations that will make you a great pilot and great pilot is the goal! :)

Has anyone heard anything about upcoming classes/hiring status?

DiveAndDrive 11-19-2016 07:50 AM

I heard the way to apply to Hageland is by emailing Ravn pilot recruitment, and the application will get where it needs to go. Can anyone PM me a email address, by chance?

Have you tried calling and asking for the email address?

Email your resume to the chief pilot. [email protected]

Interviews coming up

Just spoke with the Chief Pilot, interviews at Hageland are some time in the next few weeks. Sounds like they're considering all positions. PIC & SIC positions open. They just bought a couple more new C208EX's and probably need to fill those spots plus a few Navajo spots. Might be worth a look.

El Pilot 01-14-2017 04:07 PM

Hi, is hageland home based or dose it require moving to Alaska? I would be interested in a SIC for the caravan

david1701 01-20-2017 01:53 PM

I have a teleconference interview with Hageland next week. Anyone know what to expect? Maybe a gouge? As you know, there isn't a whole lot of info on them since they merged. I cant even find if they do any IFR ops in the 207 /208

They work 2 weeks on 2 weeks off. They have CASS so you can jumpseat home on Alaska Airlines, or any other U.S airline for that matter. You fly up a day before you are suppose to start working and get comfortable then work your 2 week shift, and then fly home. They have company housing in the villages to let you stay in. Everyone gets a housing allowance of 25 dollars a day and rent is 250 a shift so really you keep some allowance for yourself.

If you have less than 1000 hours TT, maybe even 750 hours TT they will put you as 208 co pilot (SIC). If you have a multi rating then you wait for a 1900 SIC slot to open up. From there you get put into the Cessna 207 at 1000 hours TT (maybe 750 as of this last week).

Pay:

208 SIC: 100 dollars a day
1900 SIC: 175 dollars a day
207 PIC: 230(?) a day for X days then I think it goes up to 260. I can't remember what a 207 pilot said about it, but it does go up to around 230 dollars a day.

Its nice working up in Alaska, really good flight experience getting real Alaska IFR experience, some days shooting several approaches, some days enjoying the perfect VFR weather. Its valuable experience and has definitely made me a better pilot. At least a 1/4 of the pilots are from out of state, some from out of the country too. A couple are natives who live in the village and the rest live in Anchorage or Fairbanks.

Javichu 01-23-2017 12:10 PM

Hey guys, I'm loving the idea of flying in Alaska, for a long time now.

Only "fear" I have is logging those C208 SIC hours, and I remember reading about it couple of years ago, but can't find it anymore.

Some guys said that wasn't legal, since it was single pilot operation, or at least certified for one pilot.....and then other guys said the ooposite.

Can someone clarify this for me?. At the end of the day I'm assuming this is 100% regulations, no room for interpretation. So any idea on the topic?

Thanks for your help!

It's legal, it's in the ops specs. Everyone from when I was there who wanted to move on to a regional was not impeded by van sic time.

New Ravn Pay Package!!

Ravn just gave their entire pilot group some huge raises! 75 hour gar. & 15k per year retention bonuses. Dash SIC start at 60k base + benefits! Caravan PIC base pay around 75k for two on two off!

Looks like the bar has been raised a long way! Hageland is hiring PIC's in the 207, Van, and Navajo.

I think Corvus is interviewing next week.

pocho 02-11-2017 02:44 AM

Looks like the March class is already full. Anyone know how soon the next class might be?

Javichu 02-11-2017 10:44 AM

Great!, more waiting :) my interview with them is on March 1st, so class would be in April/May I guess...

PrettyFlyGuy 02-13-2017 07:53 PM

With the new pay raise any current Hageland guys want to say the new daily rate for 207 pic and 208 pic. Thanks

JulietSierra89 02-17-2017 09:12 PM

Just got an interview for March 3rd. I am pretty low time 230TT 60Multi, so I assume they are going to throw me in the 208 SIC spot. Anyone else have an interview lately? I heard the phone interview is mostly just HR questions... Exited to start flying for a living! :)

Javichu 02-18-2017 06:11 PM

Lots of interviews scheduled, they must be hiring like crazy

Got a callback and date for phone interview, seems to be a common theme. Am fairly low time as well, less than 300TT

pocho 02-21-2017 03:23 PM

Anyone else get their interview rescheduled for late March?

Javichu 02-21-2017 03:24 PM

Pretty sure we all did :)
