Default Bidding Large Reserve Blocks

It is my understanding that with your current CBA, it is possible to bid in PBS for reserve blocks up to 18 days in length, which is advantageous for international commuters and those who simply prefer to get all their flying done at once.

Now that your CBA has been in effect for a little while, I am curious as to how feasible it is to actually be awarded 18 day blocks every month. Is it difficult/senior to actually hold this kind of reserve schedule? Does anyone do this or know someone who does?

Thanks

This provision is not in effect yet. Has to be in effect by years end.

17 day blocks. There are no more 18 day reserve months.

It's an unknown "perk", to tell the truth. Even when it goes into effect by years' end (mgmt is saying July), all they have to do is throw some coverage days at us, and we will never see a string of 17 days on the RSV side.

We already have that happening. It’s called “weekends.” The SSC won’t let RSVs get weekends off despite grids being green post bid award.

Really? Even if green they still won’t let you swap?

They do. I think he’s talking about the initial bid, which, as far as I remember, never allowed coverage to go to black so this is not new. I’m not sure if this has gotten worse post cba.

I’m at about 50% seniority for the rsv pool and ended up with 3 weekends off after the 3 windows.

Correct. Bid Sat/Sun off, don’t get the weekend off. Bid awards published and 1st window opens to see weekends in the green. It doesn’t happen every month, but maybe every other month and has been going on for a long time. Yes sometimes I can swap and get some weekends off after the bid, but not always the case.

SSC said the reason was something to the effect of they need RSVs on the weekends creating green grids so lineholders can swap their trips.

Exactly. Looks good on paper, just like max RAP of 10 hours.

I hope you're right about July because I would like to get a taste of this "benefit" and other provisions before the August annual system bid. I've asked union folk about reserve implementation and they were expecting it around 2359 on December 31st...if not later.

Pre CBA ( for swaps and PTO) - coverage required for 1 and 4 days.
Post CBA ( for swaps and PTO) - Coverage required for 1, 2,3, and 4 days.
