Do these posts make you feel better? Maybe you could start your own thread where you post stuff like this and just get it all out of the way so we can actually have productive conversations.

To the OP, what’s your time worth to you? Commuting will be an extra few days away from home. Is that worth the extra money? I’d need over $50k a year extra to go back to commuting and I’m not sure that would be enough.

I’m thinking a day of 200% pay at B6 per month would offset the difference in narrow body rate. I wouldn’t be doing much overtime commuting to a legacy. In either case, reserve at home sounds better than commuting to a tri base in the NE or Atlanta.

Thanks

PM sent with more, but all else being equal I'd take JB not commuting over a legacy with a commute. But over 30 years, bases will open and close, mergers and bankruptcies will happen, contracts will evolve and get better/worse relative to others, so a good plan now will most definitely look different in 5/10/20/30 years.

+1

The only thing I'll add is if you have all mainline to ATL, DTW or NYC, the commute isn't terrible with the booked jumpseat. But I'd still lean towards B6 in base.

Live in base wherever you decide. You can always make more money but you’ll never get time back.

Disregarding many factors and preferences I think the best way to help is describing 2 possible outcomes. Within 10 years you can be a captain in Jetblue working “normal” 15-16 days off a month and be in the 200s. Commuting to a legacy you could choose to be widebody FO with a few more days off a month and with commutable trips and be making more or less the same. How it currently looks (assuming Jetblue never gets wide bodies or merger or any of that) you’d have hit your cap at Jetblue while there’s more growth if wanted in a legacy. You’re young. If you chose to live in base this is a great gig but you’d be leaving money on the table. Money isn’t everything and having to worry about making it on flights before and after a trip adds stress. Stress you’d have till you retire. How much not having that stress is worth is a personal perspective.

Dude, you've been at JetBlue a week. You have no idea what you are talking about.

If you come here just know what you are getting into. You will be flying with a bunch of low expectation pilots. Your contract will always lag due to this fact.

It's what I wish someone would have told me. Go to Delta. Avoid this place; and if you get hired keep your apps out and leave.

2- 1/2 weeks to be more correct. Sucks that I'm not as smrt as you, because I basically gave the same advice you did. Without all the apathetic drivel thrown in.

This.

I'm a homebody and have lots of hobbies. I've commuted in the past and it will take A LOT of money to get me to commute again, especially to reserve. I don't need that stress in my life, and I have zero desire to spend my days off in a crash pad with a bunch of random guys while my family is home without me. Living in base has made this job incredibly easy and stress free.

I hear ya! Between old motorcycles, clays, music, and friends I’m having a difficulty finding time for this work thing. Maybe it’s a bad idea😄

Do not commute on an airplane to work.... work wherever you want, but life’s too short to commute. Hell, life’s too short to work hard or much! Isn’t that why we chose this profession?
Just my .02.

Yea, what he said. I bid reserve w/ weekends off, VDA on the weekends if I need extra walking around money. Less than 50 hours of block a month, sometimes way less and around 130 hours of credit. 16+ days at home, sometimes over 20 days. That’s a nice 20K payday before taxes and everything else.
