95 new aircraft is BEST CASE. Most likely some A320s will be retired. Also, this place has been deferring aircraft to improve short term profit margins. 95 aircraft is 33% in 6 years or around 4.5%/year (compounding). JetBlue deferments are a near certainty so knock off around 1.5% for our slowing growth trajectory.
Best case 4.5%. If you plan on best case with JetBlue you will regret it. In any case 3000 pilots will not be below you in 5 years. If we hire 3000 it will be because 2000 moved on to real airlines. |
OP- I lived in base while working for JB and quit to be a commuter with FedEx. I was 30, married, with a kid. I was flying with CA's that were a few years older than me and also living in base. So, seniority list progression was a big factor in my decision. Also, JB flies monotonous routes and, coupled with the drive to/from the airport made for some exhausting days. Lastly, the pay was pretty low compared to my alternative. I didnt want to have to pick up VDA, sell back PTO, or live on Flica looking for open time. So I quit and have no regrats.

FDX is probably the one place I'd make an exception for when it comes to commuting. I have a friend there who flies the 75, and his schedule is nothing short of amazing, he works 6-8 days a month, with zero redeyes. (Then again, he commutes on his own metal, and the flight and drive are less than an hour combined). And the ability to specify which extra pay assignments one wants on their day off... unheard of anywhere else that I know of! Good for you getting to FDX, glad to see a fellow pilot moving on to a better schedule and happier times (and pay, too!). |

I was BOS 190. Started on the 757 at FedEx now im on the 767. The commutes are fairly painless compared to the suck that is jumpseating on the pax carriers (even worse if your commute is offline!)

Mind telling us where you lived and were based at B6?

Anyways, FedEX is an awesome place to be an airline pilot from what I hear but only really starts to pull ahaead big time in my opinion if you take advantage of the quick 757 upgrade (<2 years) or go into the Widebodies ASAP. I understand hanging out in the right seat of the 75 gets you out of the hub turns and great quality life, but from a pay perspective it seems to me to be the same as flying a NB at the Major PAX carriers. |
