judging by how short we are, I think we will hire the maximum (as limited by sim availability)

Quote: My point is that, instead of a few people getting better vacation in that scenario and the company having to carry more pilots to compensate (or just pay more premium during that time), the company has to deal with this mess of bids and supplemental bids way further out than they actually know where they will need people. I just don’t see how the vacation dilemma is worth it for them to lose system bid flexibility.
Right, it may not actually be worth the trouble it causes for them. But when has that ever stopped them before?

They didn't want to have to staff up for FOs keeping their premium vacation slots when they upgrade, so they lose the flexibility. Or they just do min annual bids and supplement as necessary.

I just think "fairness" had nothing to do with it.

Really who is confident in 2022’s economy?

I hope you didn't sell... Markets been up strong since your statement.

When did I ever say I was selling? I said the economy and market are unstable and the company would be wise to do supplemental bids as to not repeat the last two years of cancelations. I said if anyone feels comfortable predicting next year have it it though.

I’ve got 30+ years left. I’m not selling anything.

I agree with you on doing a conservative Annual Bid and do Supplemental Bids as needed. Starting to get concerned with this Delta variant, and other variants that might mutate and render vaccines useless. We could find ourselves burning $10M/day, offering VIL lines and talking furloughs before you know it. I don’t think it’ll get that bad again, but we’re definitely not out of the woods

I get a little annoyed when I hear guys complain about how busy their schedules are this summer. Don’t jinx it, this industry is still fragile.

I love my schedule this summer. But then again I am a total w h o r e😎. I can't see shut downs or domestic quarantines coming back. Health officials seem to have a better grasp of the virus now. It's still the politicians that are the wild card..

I agree, it’s been a great summer for that. Credit this month starts with a 2.. Like you said there’s a bunch of wild cards in terms of how politicians will react but we sort of know what this virus is this time around and a better understanding of it….couldn’t agree more.

true, plus, every adult has had a chance to be vaccinated and there is little or no evidence of vaccinated people becoming seriously ill. At this point, any adult who dies from this should qualify for a Darwin Award.

Buy high…sell low. Seems like the mantra of a lot of investors.
