I do not want to be based there, I live on the east coast and if someone knows how can I get out of there the quickest or how and when can I Base Trade and how likely it would be for me to base trade every month I would appreciate your help very very much.

Thanks.

As others have said, do not bid out of LAX on the annual bid. Crew Scheduleing will not let you base trade out sooner if you already hold a award to transfer out. Trust me lesson learned the hard way.

I live in LA and want it. In September email crew planning saying you want to base swap to JFK as that’s where I am based and they will make it happen for November

You bid your base every month?

If we are hiring, yes. They can’t just place new hires anywhere they have to give the entire pilot group a shot at available vacancies

That seems like mass chaos with unlimited upgrade/aircraft change training events.

Happens at the regionals all the time. You’d still be bound by 2 year equipment locks…which would be no different than how it is today with an annual bid. Once there are only two similar paying aircraft on property, (and also when the 220 fleet is larger), there won’t be a ton of people switching fleets like there are and have been with the 190 in the mix.

I think quarterly bids are the sweet spot. Although just having a standing bid in and the company doing monthly bids worked pretty well too. Especially since everyone could see everyone else’s standing bids and you kind of knew where you stood.

The issue is how to bid vacation if your base/seat for the year isn’t set. But, I’d rather deal with that issue than these ridiculous annual bids.

One airplane, 2 seats, can't voluntary downgrade, base change doesn't incur training, no special route quals at NK. So, not really for us. With 3 types and LHR SQ it's different, so I am sure some locks would happen. Still, once a year??

Glad to hear that there is some flexibility with dropping reserve days. At NK there is none. We get 12/13 days off a months and that’s it.

Thanks Flyby, appreciate you answering my questions!

Also note, we get 12-14 days off LC and 13-14 days off short call depending on the month. Being on the hook 15 days in February vs 18 at my last shop is a very nice perk.

This would be good for the new hires, like those guys that want BOS but there’s only two slots, and the older guys in new hire class get it, so they get stuck with JFK… and then a week later they offer 20 BOS slots to the newer new hires.
