Google maps says it's a 22 mile drive from KLGB to KLAX.

You're arguing semantics, not practical reality. The thousands of pilots who had their base close and were forced to commute permanently by airplane aren't going to have sympathy for the plight of LGB pilots having to drive to LAX. Get real.

You obviously can’t recognize a play on a movie quote.

Been 20-25 years since I've seen that movie. Never had a chance on that one.

I am getting real the company was willing to spend millions of dollars in training to close LGB and open LAX as a respective bases (ALPA even offered them a much cheaper solution of essentially moving the base). I’m not arguing that it was painful to the hand full of LGB pilots that were displaced, in fact it doesn’t even compare to some of the base closers at other carriers. I’m arguing that this company will have no problem closing a base if it doesn’t suite the companies needs. And to say they have never closed a base is factually incorrect and not just “semantics ”. They closed LGB..

It hurt a lot more than just a handful of pilots in LGB. A lot of pilots were effected all over the system because it forced a displacement bid. I was tremendously affected.

They factually closed LGB in the LA basin. They also factually simultaneously opened LAX, in the LA basin. That caused a rebid and some pilots were harmed, which I think was a mistake. Practically speaking, from what any reasonable career pilot understands a base closure to mean, this wasn't a base closure. JB still has a base in the LA basin, period. They moved terminals, 22 miles, and unfortunately went full stupid and made pilots rebid for the new terminal.

Will JB close a base in the future if they NEED to? Yeah, probably. But the airport move in LA and the closure of MCO E190 have shown them that it is extremely expensive to do so, so the threshold for NEEDING to close a base has likely gone up. And JB knows bases will help them attract and retain pilots, which they need.

I agree with you and hope you are correct about learning their lesson and their threshold for base closers. I hope when we combine with Spirit that we keep all the current bases from both operations open.
