With the cost of setting up ETOPs, I’d imagine it would be smart to realign certain flights into JFK/BOS to provide more attractive connection times to Europe.
I think they’d want to try that and see the results first before cutting a TATL route outright. Especially since a lot of the cut LAX flying will become JFK/BOS reinforcement flying. Perhaps that’ll be a few hundred more seats capable of carrying some Europe connectors at times that make sense. Also, we have just the right amount of LRs for the flying we do now, and as each new one comes, each is good for another route. If we stop any of the TATL routes, where are we sending these LRs? (SDQ turns, lol. But no). |

maybe we should give it a little more than 6 months for a route to prove itself. Just a thought.
they do the same thing every time they get in trouble. Retreat to the bases and cut Orlando and LA. Yea, AMS didn’t start until September so it hasn’t even seen one peak summer season. Now maybe the yields aren’t there or the winter is so bad the summer can’t get it to break even but I don’t think there’s any evidence that’s the case. I think all of our competitors have gone seasonal at LGW so I could definitely see us doing the same or consolidating to LHR only. That being said, there’s less capacity than last year when just about everybody started doing it from both NYC and BOS. |
Dropping AMS this soon would be crazy. And DL/KLM own something like 88% of all US-AMS traffic, and 100% of JFK/BOS-AMS. I don't believe that for a second.

At this point dropping Gatwick and Amsterdam would be similar to parking 190s in favor of adding CRJs. A huge step backward... and a clear sign of our impending doom.

I thought the A220 has been doing well? |

not just doom but impending doom. I love impending doom. It’s my favorite type of doom. |

From the jump seat: B6 dropping Gatwick and Amsterdam and the phrase wide body is not in the dictionary anymore. Big changes happening. It is interesting to see and picking up the routes that B6 is dropping. Robin had his nose on everything and obviously he screwed it up. Joanna letting people actually do their job.
It feels like B6 is just a couple steps behind NK. 1st rumor: 6 to 8 Business class seats in cabin to be announced in May SJU will become a base. A220 FLL base in August annual bid. SQ is weak in Dub AMS LGW, possibly will go away (yes I'm curious about this too since Dub and AMS is still fresh, maybe they meant seasonal? Idk) Bos to grow the most in network over the next several years, Marty behind that. Widebodies off the table as of now B6 in 2 day long meeting this week with Airbus discussing the future of the XLR 2nd rumor: "Had jojo on my flight. Said our guidance will be conservative throughout the year. The Board met yesterday with the 2 activist investors. One needs a little more help with understanding the business. They've been mostly quiet. Jojo and the squad are focused on reliability and improving the balance sheet. There will probably be another AA partnership. AA want it bad, and we can use their slots in LGA and even EWR to drive down cost for operations(in ewr). We had significant gains in loyalty pax from NEA. Also will be making more personnel changes. Poached someone to work with Marty, announcement in a couple of weeks. The draw downs were hard decisions, but we need the metal on more profitable markets to defend against Frontier (SJU) and Delta (BOS), so expect some responses there." End of rumor I guess we will see if some or most of these become true between May (investor day) and August (for bases). For A220 base in FLL, someone asked today in the pocket session about A220 RDU base and JW said no and A220 FLL is a much stronger possibility. |

This is telling the story. B6 management has been lying and screwing up for years. The blue juice out of LIC is toxic. Giving up AMS is a huge sign of weakness. This is what happens when no real planning and analysis ever exists, but we are told that people in charge are about to come up with the sequel to the theory of relativity.
We are just two steps behind NK. The activists on the board are there just to be vultures and do not care what decisions B6 makes (good or bad). All management at B6 must go with slashing prices with a blue light just like K-mart down the Hudson. This is Robin's doing. B6 needs the one world alliance not just AA. |
