So, IMO bidding the base you want DOES take priority over the plane.

That only works if you live in the base you're based. If you commute, all bets are off.

Can anyone give insight of what average take home after taxes for 2nd yr 190 FO. Let's just assume 75ish hrs per month

I'm a JFK 190 about to hit 3rd year in the top 40% in base. I shoot for 80 hours a month, but prefer days off to money, so the past few months have been at about 72 hours because the trips have been so weak in JFK.

I take home roughly 1800 every two weeks after all is said and done. I do not have jetblue health insurance, but, I live in New York (taxes) and max out my 401k to get the max from JB and contribute 2% to the stock purchase plan.

So true. I just bid into JFK from BOS due to commutability, and wow. The trips are much worse for a commuter. Went from productive 3-4 day trips to garbage 1-2 day trips pinned together. I will echo what others have said, 3-4 legs a day for 4.5-5 hours of block is << 1-2 legs for 5-6 hours of block. Go to the bus, the red eyes are bad, but you will be whooped after a 12 hour day with half of that parked at the gate.

That's true in BOS on the 190 as well. Many 4 leg days with 2+ hour sits.

Thanks for the great info. What is the max 401k % you put in to match. I'm also more into days off than money, how many days off on average can you hold (when you weren't top 40% as well) thanks!

Its 3.5 years right now or actually a little bit less. Who really knows where that will go but I'm guessing it will stay at the 3-4 year mark for another year or so. The timing that *may* affect you is the CBA. If there are measurable increases in pay/qol/reserve rules (which there better be) you *may* see it go back up to the 5-6 year range again.

A bit of a bummer if you all get to within a year or so of upgrade only to see it go back up a few years out of reach again. Who knows though...I have no idea what I'm talking about and am just speculating like anyone else.

I plan to upgrade before the CBA to beat the potential wave and I know many others who are planning the same.

Displacement language

Not sure what you meant by that but I would hope that any CBA we approve wouldn't include displacement language that would bump junior guys out of seat or base just because senior guys want in. It should only displace junior pilots if the base closes or downsizes.

Typically you can only be bumped out of your seat if your base reduces positions. And even then senior guys cannot bump you out. If you're 5 from the bottom and the reduction is 4 positions, you'll be safe. No new upgrades could come into that base and force you out.

Of course, we could write the language however we wish, but it would be seriously crappy to have senior guys bumping out junior captains just because they finally decided to upgrade. They can bid on new positions only. There has to be some benefit to biting the bullet and taking first upgrade.
