While I see management's point of view in not wanting to lose pilots to Delta right after spending the money to train them, they must realize that not everyone who lives in a Delta base wants to work for Delta. I am actually trying to move out of the south and am hoping for the Boston base. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.
I live in Northern NJ. 6000tt, 3000jetpic, I have an interview at the end of Sept. I see that United has a large # of A320s and they are in EWR, so JetBlue is still willing to interview me.

On a side note, I read that each pilot signs an individual employment contract. Does that not contain a training payback clause?

After the ALPA vote in April of 2014 no one hired after that signs a PEA (personal employment agreement). The company told those guys it wasn't allowed now that a union is on property. So management I guess send you an email explaining this and also that they will "honor" the current PEA, but to answer your question, no there is no training contract or anything. You're free to leave at any time.

I do agree about the delay in hiring though.
Which part don't you understand? If you accept VDA and they don't call you then YOU DO NOT GET PAID! You must abide by the same preparedness rules as an active reserve ( 2 hour callout, adequate rest, no alcohol, etc). If you aren't going to accept the assignment then why sign up for it?????

YOU ARE SITTING RESERVE WITH NO PAY GUARANTEE!

I don't disagree with all that you are saying. That said, people will always do what is best for them.

Also, per the FSM, VDA can be taken from your local Blue city vs. sitting in base. So, you can be sitting at home on VDA vs. sitting at a crashpad.

And my favorite part of the FSM on this? "If you are not feeling rested to pick up a VDA, do not answer the phone."

No your not sitting RSV. Your volunteering to be called for 190% pay. Who decides if I'm rested enough for said assignment? I do. I'm sorry I can't make it in 2 hours I'll be there in 3 cool? No ok see YA. Yes, AWSOME be there as soon as I can cause I'm making 190%.
I want a beer... Pop! Ooops I'm Beering on vda. Phone rings, sorry I'm not available. I decide. Very different from RSV, phone rings if it's leagal you go.

I signed up for it because I may want to do a single leg to SJU overnight and self DH home be gone from the house for 11hours and get 10 hrs credit at $209.89.
But when they call with an AWSOME 4 flying leg DH home for 15:50 duty and 5 hrs credit... They can go fish.

I get called a lot because I live in base and have weekends off. I don't even sign up for vda and I get called. 90% of the time I'm not available due to Daddy day care. But when it's too good to pass up, take the money.

All I can say is, I live in a DL base and got an interview. I did get asked more than once why I didn't want to go work at DL as I live very close to one of their bases. It is all about how you present yourself, and there are people like myself who have no interest working at DL. I do think JB is looking at people who live near their base, there was a large number of people from Florida and other JB base cities at the interview. Don't give up and keep trying, it took me a very long time and meeting the right people for it to happen. Good Luck.
