I gave up a one hour drive to commute by plane for the rest of my career. That should speak volumes to you. Is this a good company to come to for a new type rating while you build your resume and log more flight time? Absolutely. The pilots you will fly with are generally great guys and gals. Is this a career airline? Sorry, no. I came here with high hopes and thought I'd be here for good. However, I was discouraged with the whole operation- the lack of respect for the pilots, the lack of retirements and movement, the low pay, etc. I started updating my apps within 6 months of my hire date. If you have any length of time left in your career and/or have a family to support (pay and medical) I would strongly urge that you wait for the legacy airline or the purple or brown guys to call you first. Feel free to PM me if you'd like to chat. Also, I should say I'm a regular APC poster but I'm using this account to preserve anonymity. Good luck to all the blue pilots here. I hope you get the contract that will make you happy!

Oh man, you said bad (but completely true) stuff about JetBlue, standby to be scolded by the Blue Pilot-Janitors.

That said, congratulations, you almost certainly made the right decision with the information you have right now, which is all you can do.

Spot on. I couldn't have written it better. Unfortunately this sums up my experience and feelings as well as those of a bunch of guys that were hired around the same time as me. I'll also say I get this sentiment from a number of captains I fly with... THAT should really say something.

What makes me sick is that a Captain explained this to me during my first year as well, and only now, do I realize the need to get to a legacy. Even with a good CBA, we'll always be playing catch-up and "culture" games.
System bid should be out any week now and I dread the lack of movement.

Scolded by the blue pilot janitors.

You can't help yourself can you?

As for the poster I wish him luck it's better that he made that decision vs being stuck here. Having said that it's not a decision he should have to make(read that again) if JetBlue is ever going to keep good pilots they need to get their crap together. It is not 2010 we are not the only game.

Agreed on B6 getting it together.
However, they say they feel okay with the number of apps and stated that its the 3-5 year outlook that they fear. Thats what theyre selling in recurrent along with the low attrition numbers anyway.
It could just be posturing, but I fail to see the incentive for a CBA if they truly are not concerned with attrition or apps on file.

Not online yet, but curious...

Of the CAs and FOs that all of you fly with, roughly what percentage of each would you say are trying to leave for something better?

Tough to say. The Captains I fly with (A320) are sticking, but I hear more rumbling from 190 guys and 320 FOs. It usually comes down to geography. Those who live near a B6 base are just gonna take the CBA, those of us living more than a 2-hour drive are more likely to leave, but its impossible to quantify.
The numbers as they stand now, make leaving a no-brainer, but a very good CBA could change the math- Not the movement though. Thats the worst aspect of B6- retirements are abysmal, which is obviously no fault of B6 and will remain for the next 15 years. This is only 1 opinion out of 3400 pilots.

capt707 06-07-2017 07:20 AM

I said this before, there is a good amount of FOs, 0-3 yr. seniority looking to leave, but it is all easier said than done. Just because you are at JB doesnt mean a legacy will call you.

Bluedriver 06-07-2017 07:46 AM

Last time I checked crewtrac about a month ago we had broken 3500 pilots. Now we are back below 3500. We are literally a shrinking airline with no retirements!
