I am 52 years old. My career started in 1996 as an FE on the DC8. I flew 40 hours before I was furloughed. Got an FE job on a 727 at another carrier. Got furloughed after 4mo. Got another job at TransCon (Doug Kalitta) on the 727 as FE. TransCon was in the process of being sold. Was furloughed after another 5mo. Sept 11th happened and I had to get out of the flying business. Fast forward 20 years (50yo) and I stated flying again and got a job 6mo ago at a 135 carrier flying SIC on a CRJ200. I’m racking up ther hours pretty quickly. I currently have 1000 eligeable hours towards my ATP including FE time of which 1/3 of it is eligeable to be used towards my ATP not to exceed 500hrs. I should have ATP minimum time in the next 6mo. The plan I’m putting together is to get hired at Kalitta 4. I need home basing. I can’t commute. I live in the middle of nowhere and I’m not moving. I’d like to be at Kalitta til mandatory retirement age.
Will Kalitta hire me with the ATP minimums?
If not what is a realistic number of hours?
Should I upgrade at my current company to PIC and get some PIC turbojet? Not the ideal situation for ARGUS reasons and not home based currently.
Will kalitta provide CPT training?
Thanks in advance!

Difficult to say as I am not involved in any way with the hiring process at the company.
However, the way you phrased the question it appears that you might not have an ATP license. If this is the case, to my knowledge the company generally only issues type ratings during initial training with designated APD’s for the AQP syllabus approved by the FAA.
If you currently hold a commercial license you will need to take the ATP CTP course followed by an ATP exam at a CATS testing center. Then once that’s done obtain an ATP check ride in a multiengine aircraft with a designated pilot examiner (DPE).

-The hours posted on the Kalitta Air Website would be your safest bet. It would not hurt to apply though.

-This is difficult to say, as there are so many factors. I would recommend obtaining the required hours to obtain the ATP and consider a Part 121 regional. I think this would serve your best interest in several ways. You will obtain an ATP paid by the air carrier, experience the Part 121 training environment, and build experience of working for scheduled air carrier. If you have the option, a E-175 would be a great plane to fly at a regional as it has autothrottles, auto brakes, and VNAV capability. This would help with your transition to the Boeing aircraft Kalitta Air operates.
Will kalitta provide CPT training?
Unsure, however I would recommend contacting the hiring team and asking.
I hope this response helps you along with your journey in your career.
Wish you all the best,
Don

No family travel benefits, other than the airline miles and hotel points you accrue along the way.
Layover times range from min rest to several days. 24 hour layovers are common. Your schedule sort of develops and evolves on a daily basis as you go so you can't really count on anything specific ahead of time, other than your go-home day. That's not necessarily good or bad, it's just how it works here.
If you are reading this more than a week after it was posted, it's probably changed. "Past performance is no guarantee of future results".
