A lot of people out there, myself included, believe that we are no more closer to a contract than we were 4 years ago. The thought being that the company will only make a serious offer when a strike has been allowed by the government. Until that happens, nothing will change.

Don't think he took the letter as "gospel". He also understands it's an offer, not a signed deal. What he decided is that the company seems to be offering a substantial raise in hourly pay, but no real raise to be seen by the pilots due to the open ended insurance costs. I agree with him. If the real TA was the same as the letter, I would certainly vote no. That's what he did by not showing up for class.
