Quote: Split lines are common, but they aren’t going to make your rotation shorter. They generally are at the beginning of the month and the end of the month. So for example the first 8 days and last 8 days. Now do that next month and what do you have? A 16 day rotation with the middle of the month off.
Thanks, Locke. Exactly the information I as looking for.

Quote: Why? It’s not just a K4 problem. Delta has a basically a 10month upgrade on the MD80 and Fed Ex is less than 2 years on the 75/76. Atlas 2 1/2 on the 76. I think it’s a good discussion to have.
I'm talking about specifically insulting by insinuation some of the recently awarded

Hi all,

I was wondering if someone could tell me what the current retirement plan is at Kalitta & if there is any bonus or profit sharing incentive? Please & Thanks.

Why? No one is being called out by name but there is a reality to this situation.

It’s an award based on longevity and not necessarily on skill or ability. Most of them will go on to do great things but within any group there are people who think their skill/ability is higher/better than it really is and they will struggle and/or fail.

Do you disagree with the point that not everyone on the list is going to be a capable captain. If everyone who came out on an upgrade list was capable of passing then there would be no training failures. There will be those who will not pass. It’s just reality and proven statistical fact.

So...... if your next month is the same split, you'll still be working 16 days in a row. Right?

I do not work for K4 or any other ACMI carrier but I'm pretty sure thats just the nature of this beast for now, and probably the foreseeable future. If you need a more fragmented line/schedule in the freight world i think your best bet will be FedEx or UPS.

Quote: Random question from a guy a couple years away from being competitive:

Split lines were mentioned a few pages back. Are these fairly common or difficult to get? I’d love to do the type of flying Kalitta does, but the 16-17 on schedule is not something I really want to do. I have experience with that from my previous career so I’m not a “you never know, you might like it” guy. I’m not knocking the schedule, I know many people love it.

Appreciate any insight.
I am not meaning to be harsh but realistic. If you might even have a little bit of a problem with a 16 or 17 day schedule please don't come to K4 or any other ACMI carrier that does not have short trips. For five years I worked back to back months at least once a year ie; 34 days out. December and January and most years twice. This flurry of activity will be over in a few years and you will be just getting here. There is better than 50% possibility that you will find yourself in the same position I was in. For me, it wasn't the end of the world because my kids are adults and I am divorced. We actually have some Captains who work December to let the junior guys with families off.
Hope this helps.

I agree. Some people are better CA’s than FO’s simply because the added responsibility changes their attitude, and some people need to be thrown into the fire to really shine.

Just like what Maxjet said, this split line stuff needs to be put to rest. Split lines are not a way to work short rotations. You will not work 1week on 1 week off at Kalitta.

A split line will have you work the beginning and end of the month. When you do it multiple months in a row you will quickly realize you’re just working a 16 day line with the middle of the month off.

You WILL be on the road 16 straight, and often times more than that. The company does not want to waste money getting you to work more than once a month. The reason legacies, FedEx, and UPS can do it is because it’s your problem to get to work. They don’t lose money buying you a ticket.

I was able to bid lines and move a few days around so that for awhile I was working 10-11 on and 8-10 off....over and over again... but eventually it was harder and harder to do.

They match 5% up to a max of 10,000. There is a scale for when their match is vested. No bonus or profit sharing.

If you are wanting company retirement, bonus, or incentive plans, this is not the place for you. There may be some movement in the future but not until then.
