Probably a lot more than pilots who became doctor's/lawyers. Why do you think that is?

I had to go back and read my entire post - but I think that you are misunderstanding the context of the entire quote. To put it another way - doctors and lawyers don't go from ground zero to working professional in less than a year.

If your message is that pilots can go from zero to hero in less than a year...then we're on the same page. My post essentially agress with yours. One doesn't need to be a Brain Surgeon to be a Pilot. It's why there will never be a shortage of pilots. We aren't as special as we'd like to think we are.

I work Monday to Friday during day VFR only. I get all my weekends off unless we had a bad weather week and then get tagged for a Saturday once or twice a year. Get 40 hours a week pay at $37.45/hour and good benefits. QOL is good. However, to do this I am stuck in a cycle of taking 0 hour military pilots (some with civilian flight time), doing only primary maneuvers, and then solo them in 10-14 hours. That's the part that burns me out. Over and over again all year long. With a QOL like this there is no place to move to. While many tell me you have to be kidding to complain about this gig how many of us signed up for 800-1200 hours a year in a DA20 instructing?

I'm considering moving on to something else. Saw a local trucker driver who owns his rig and gone two weeks, home two weeks make $250,000 last year with $100K in operating expenses. Not my cup of tea but are you kidding me? We certainly got the short end of the stick in the pilot industry.

Good luck to all those making the switch. Still debating but looking at the grass on the other side of the fence and not finding it much better.

Real jobs pay real wages, but there is also no escaping the fact that they are real jobs. The grass is not greener but pays much better. Work is not supposed to be fun. As pilots we all come to the career with a bit of a playboy attitude. You will get use to it.

Kinda sad... but I'm looking to get in rather than get out.

I wish my Dad hadn't drilled into me that, "If you enjoy what you do, you will never work a day in your life." I never felt like flying was work. But everyday I wake up for this managment job I groan.
With no offense to your dad, that age-old cliche about "never having to work a day in your life....." doesn't apply to aviation. If anything, it's the opposite. I say that if you want to love aviation, then DON'T make a career of it. I think working the line encourages contempt for something most of us once loved.
A lot of cliches were started by some people trying to control other people. e.g., "money doesn't buy happiness", no it doesn't, but try taking that coveted family vacation (in which memories are endless) without money. Some rich guy one day came up with that old one when one of his workers asked for a raise and that guy (who was dumb enough to believe it), started spreading it.
Btw, it's about time that a thread like this is getting some "positive" feedback.
