To make it simple:
1) Sky is right/misunderstood.
2) No I don't see myself in that way.
3) You guys are wrong for pointing it out.

You say you are on a responsible path and have nothing to be ashamed of.
Are you planning on becoming a professional pilot?
If so - then I don't understand how you could possibly make that statement if your are a supporter of Sky's views - because he would tell you just how wrong and irresponsible you are in pursuing such a path.

If you were to go into business, borrow large sums of money to get it started, fail miserably and end up in crushing debt - would you consider yourself a failure too?
That route may lie in your future no matter what route you take. It isn't just in aviation. You may succeed in aviation, you may succeed in business, you may become a billionaire real estate developer, you may fail in all or more....you just don't know. Put your best effort into whatever you decide to do and deal with life as you play the game. It is NOT fair.

Red - if you haven't yet - see his response to me in the last two posts. He can not answer you because he can't answer the question himself. He can't even put him/herself into your situation in the example; yet claims to believe in the words. Kind of reminds me of the 'don't ever ask anyone to do something that you are unwilling to do yourself' rule of life.

Taking on huge debt unsuccessfully is definitely what I would call failure and yes, it can happen anywhere. Although the debt/income ratio definitely looks different in other fields. You definitely can fail anywhere, and there are lots of people out there to prove it.

No thanks to aviation career. Very risky. You are correct - could fail, maybe not, hard to tell right now. However SkyHigh has a lot to share in your field and may as well be called the #1 poster here.

Guess it depends on what poll you believe :D

You still haven't explained WHY you won't use the example if you BELIEVE what Sky is saying.
I'm truly interested in the thought process.
Please share.
I feel that you are sidestepping the issue here.

Because I am not pursuing an aviation career.

Then what career are you pursuing? No matter what it is, it's a huge risk and you could fail miserably.

Oh, and you are still avoiding how what Sky said is some how not an insult to me when he said I put my career before my family. Does Sky know that for a fact about my personal life? Do you?

Risk

“Far better is it to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checked by failure...than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they live in a gray twilight that knows not victory nor defeat.”
---Theodore Roosevelt

Teddy intended no personal insult, of course. ;)

Wow.. what a salient point. As per your logic, no one should take any move toward any career at any time, because it could fall at any time.

I do like your screen name. That is where your logic ends with any sound points.

Tens of thousands of people lose their jobs every month......the VAST majority of them are NOT pilots.... I am wondering if people should not pursue ANY profession or trade.

As for unemployment, I will stand by my assertion that individual employees do not pay into that system. No need to rehash how long unemployment should be for.

Sky is FAMOUS for making statements or proclamations.....recently he stated (and I paraphrase) that Grocery store produce managers made more than MOST pilots.... when I presented the facts that the average produce manager only made something like 45000 per year.... in typical Sky fashion he did not admit his exaggeration... he simply ignored the facts. Now had it stated that produce managers make more than the average 1st or 2nd year FO at a regional he would be right...but alas he did not.

I will say it one last time...I support his message just not the little white fairy tales he tells around it to bolster it.

I'm surprised no one has ever pointed out the obvious about your pal, SkyHigh. For someone who intimates he's a better parent than the rest of you guys because he opted out of aviation and is home with his six kids every night, he sure spends an inordinate amount of time on APC regurgitating his twisted views over and over again. You'd think super dad would use that time more wisely, no?

Now you've been sucked in by a member of his fan club so round and round you all go again. I swear it's like watching a dopey dog chasing its tail.

Also, I find it wildly ironic that some of you who scream from the highest mountain that he "generalizes" about pilots are, in fact, some of the worst offenders about doing the EXACT same thing to other airline employee groups. Go figure. Gotta love a h-y-p-o-c-r-i-t-e.

Sorry to hear about your furlough LNL, but you haven't exactly been spotless in your own throwing of stones in the past either. Careful about throwing out that hypocrite word. You're welcome to repost any post of mine where I have ever attacked another airline employee group in the same manner.
