Commuting in Uniform

ah... you want to be "treated" special and be the "hero" if a security incident happens in flight... i get it now. When I'm flying as a passenger on the plane I'm not advertising who I am and don't expect or want any special treatment... if something happens on the plane and the FAs ask for help I'll help... I'm not going to jump into the incident and be the hero nobody asked for especially if there are FAMS onboard. Also, the FAs have a list of all passengers by seat number.. and it lists who are employees... its not rocket science.
I guess your position is that If your daughter was a flight attendant and some large person was pushing her around that you would prefer that I wait the 10 or 20 minutes for the Police to arrive. How about if it was a terrorist trying to gain access to the flight deck, and your wife who was a FA took a stand in the aisle? Under your code I should just stand by and do nothing. Society will not change if those in it do nothing. I will keep my comments as to your intestinal fortitude to myself.

Maxjet, go take a tablet, grab your stuffed animal, and go sit in the corner. Please by all means Go ahead and wear your Lanyard/ID and prance around like a peacock... I'll be the guy laughing at you from the exit row... but you'll not know who I am.
Based on your angry posts it sounds like we might read about you in the news For being a non-rev "passenger" that gets booted off a flight for causing a scene by strong arming another passenger and/or making a plane divert for attacking a passenger you thought crossed the line or this creed you talk about... scary.

I have received a few PM's lately about this subject from readers of this post. They do not support your position. I will leave this discussion now as it appears from your last post that you are in defensive mode and are not really interested in either discussing this very, very important issue, or changing your position on the matter. Good luck to you and fly safe.

I commute in uniform because it's just easier to have less stuff in my bag. Besides security reasons, if I go on American, often I'll get the by the book gate agent that won't let me on with three bags unless I'm in uniform. I'm not trying to put on a show for pax or any other crew, it's just easier.

I have found that you are less likely to be left behind when in uniform. I mean it seems like even if you check in early they try to leave you behind if you're not standing right in front of them in uniform. They just see you as any other nonrev that isn't getting a seat on their oversold flight
Also, in the winter where do you put your blazer when commuting out of uniform?

This! I have made flights where I had lower priority on the jumpseat, the other pilot recognized me as a pilot (because I was in uniform), and either used their regular non rev listing for a seat in the back, or taken the FA jumpseat (neither of which would have been options for me), and I was Awarded the Flight Deck Jumpseat, when I would have been LEFT Behind!!! I also have been spotted by the Crew working the flight, and when they see me in uniform, come and talk to me before boarding (they probably would not have done this if I was in civies). Not only is this useful for not getting left behind, but also Most of the time, if you have already talked with the Captain, he'll (or she'll) say don't bother coming up to the cockpit again if you get a seat! 1 this helps you find a spot for your bag so you don't have to go to baggage claim and wait, and 2 you aren't in the FA's/Agents/Fuelers/Ground Crews way when they are trying to get the flight out!
It's not an ego thing, it's an experienced commuter's tool...
I'll add this though, I do commute in business casual occasionally when the flights are WIDE OPEN, but only then...I very rarely have this luxury unfortunately!

No argument that Commuting in uniform is legit and pax have no clue if your DHing or commuting to base/home. Commuting in street clothes and wearing your ID out the entire flight advertising that your "crew" is what many of us are saying is questionable behavior...

It's for the free AA breakfast croissant- egg, turkey bacon, and swiss - that the FAs dole out to offline uniformed pilots. It's quite lovely when combined with a galley coffee. Seriously, it's just easier I believe. But now I'm getting a ton of looks and one pax actually asked me if I bumped someone to get on. Uh, not with a Jetblue uniform traveling on AA, but thanks for asking.

Jeez. It's a personal choice. I commute in uniform for several good reasons...
1. Keep my full-size toothpaste and shave gel.
2. More obvious to gate and CA if trying to JS.
3. Limited room in rollaboard, I pack casual civvies and don't have room for extra slacks and collared shirt plus uniform jacket.
If I'm in civvies, the badge is out from KCM until I've checked in with the CA. Then I stow it if I'm sitting in the back.
But whatever other folks want to do is fine too. Most companies nonrev policy specifies that you should not flaunt your free travel privilege to the revenue pax, so stowing the badge is probably something that should be done in civvies. In uniform, pax just assume you're traveling in some official capacity anyway.
Not sure what to think of commuting in uniform with the bling removed...that obviously sticks out like a sore thumb to me, but maybe pax are oblivious.
