Don't mean to slam the guy, but I find it comical that some of these 1900 "drivers" bashing anything and everything about how immoral it is to work for below industry wages when they are getting paid 10 bucks an hour themselves or worse could actually be PAYING places like Gulfstream Int'l to occupy the right seat.

At least VA will be employing Americans to fly the buses.

As for as them lowering the industry standards? No need to worry, there are already other American establishments like Allegiant, Spirit, Airtran and Jetblue taking care of that!

Better check some of those pay scales and compare them to the VA proposed pay rates. Some are significantly higher.

Hey Major, do all of the upstart guys a favor. Let's take a different perspective. You don't want all these guys wasting your valuable gate time, preparing for your flight, by requesting the jumpseat. So to help you out, just tell us the airline so they won't be inclined to ask anyone for a chance to get home. It's just because you are such a swell and magnanimous fellow.

Can't be Delta, not MD83s, can't be UAL, never had MDs, can't be AAL, never had 737-2s, can't be Airtran, never had MDs, same with USAir and AmWest, nor FedEx or UPS. NWA-nope no 73s. Ok here's the deal, I make 21.83 which is about the industry average for carting 19 people around at 17000 feet. I am not for one minute talking like I am big time, I've never hid behind what I do fly or who I fly it for or why I've made the decision to do it.

I am also not a pocked marked 19 year old shooting my mouth off about something for which I know nothing about. We are not only talking airlines we are talking business and furtures. I'm a 30 something career changer who accepts the decision I have made. I love my job flying airplanes, its 100% easier than anything else I've done and I really do enjoy it. This does not however mean I should simply sit back and be quiet as others promote imploding it with such vigor.

N570up, I don't think you are slamming me it is easy to feel that way but I do think you have not paid attention to what I've written. I never said anything about it being immoral for someone to go there I simply pointed out that it may not be in the best interest of the industry. I certainly have not paid for a seat in anything other than a 172. I have gone the long route flight instructing, flying near death freight and currently building time and 121 experience in a 1900 make pretty much industry standard rates for the plane.

You are right Americans will be flying the buses while Brits and managment will reap the rewards. All I am saying is if people flock in to take low paying jobs then thats what it is all going to come too. The pilot shortage may not be felt at what ever level you are at but the regional airlines cannot fill classes quick enough. Student Pilot are decreasing and flight schools are closing. It is way to expensive and most likely will not pay off in the long run. What do think this will lead to, we are letting foreign airlines operate in America how soon do you think it will take before foreign pilots are taking our jobs for $30-$40 per hour flying that bus the Americans hopped on.

As far as those American establishment "lowering the industry standards" again you're missing my point. Do we really need another?

A330, unfortunately my fear is not that it falls on its face, my fear is that in fact it succeeds and the others will be forced to follow suit.

But in the event you feel the need to send the gift certificate I'll go one step further not rev a VA flight near you and collect it in person. I think we'd have great meal solving the world!
