Question Citation PIC time or 121 SIC time???

Any input on this subject would be appreciated.

My future goal is to be working for an airline. Right now I just got typed on a citation ultra, and am logging turbojet PIC time. I may have a possible interview with a LCC in a month or so, but is that a good stepping stone to take to a major airline. Should I give up "small jet" PIC time to get "larger jet" SIC time?

Thanks

Even better, built some time in the Citation, then look for a cushy part 91 gig... but I agree- PIC time is more valuable, unless you aren't building it quickly...

Agreed with FlyerJosh. If you're going to be building the turbine PIC in the Citation in a hurry, might as well hang there for a bit to see if you can't make the jump to the airlines from there. However, if you see yourself as taking a long time to get the valued time, I'd head to the airline. Another thing to consider is your happiness value. I've always been a believer that if you want to go to the airlines, you should go to the airlines to be the happiest, and to advance your career/make connections...To me this is a tough call, perhaps it is not so obvious to others...but I'm new to all of this.

Good luck with your choice!

Any PIC is good, but you will be handicapped as far as the majors go without at least some 121 (or military) time. Even 121 SIC would help round out your resume, but 121 PIC is best (121 check airman time is even better).

Check that 1000 PIC box first. 1500 if you can, then go elsewhere if you choose.

Thanks for all the great info. unfortunately the time building is not fast. it would take 3 years to get 1000 hrs. Jet time as we fly King Air's also. BTW I have over 3000 hours of PIC time, but its Turbo-prop and piston.

How much of the 3000 is turbine? If you have friends/connections, it won't matter if it's jet or prop. In fact, if you don't have connections, it won't matter either since guys with 121 jet PIC can't get called without connections either.

If you've got the turbine PIC (jet OR prop) and friends where you want to work, then some 121 airline/crew experience might be good for the resume. Just my .02.
