California income taxes

One of the benefits of EV is the lack of smog and having a much cleaner source of energy. So, while not all EV pay for the roads they also don't contribute near as much to the carcinogens and pollutions spewed by ICE cars that cause a myriad of raspatory and health problems. How much of a tax should the ICE drivers be made to pay to make up for the health problems they cause?
The quantifiable part is a big gotcha though... how do account for coal powered EV's vs. nuclear-powered EV's?
How do you account for life-cycle environmental costs. Do we care if the pollution associated with exotic chemical production occurs in Asia? Or is it all good as long as it's happening not in North America?

That makes sense, if it's transparent and quantifiable.

California income taxes
This gas tax issue has been around since before EVs when car manufacturers started building lighter and more fuel efficient vehicles in general. Since then, there has been a drop of tax revenue per vehicle miles. So just wait, if it hasn’t happened yet, states will mandate car manufacturers install GPSs that send mileage data (among other things) to the states taxing authority’s office for the purpose of billing you monthly (among other things). Which might be ok if it replaced the gas tax. But I would bet it would be in addition to.

Quantifying it would be arduous but with EV you can help end it.
I am just saying that if you want to add taxes to EV to help fund the roads they shouldn't more than the taxes that are collected through gas sales. We are also talking around $100 a year and if you really wanted to get technical it should be more of a weight and mileage tax where a truck will contribute more than a mini cooper. The only problem with that is the government gets to monitor you and your driving habits so they can tax you appropriately.

The only time a diesel would be used to charge a car was at a place where there was no electricity available. It would also cost nearly 4 to 5 times more than a normal charger. It would be no different if you were to go to a gas station where there is no electricity and they would be running a diesel to power the pumps. But hey lets use the .0000001% of chargers out there as the standard.

Oregon’s .9% of assessed value is not sky high. Especially considering there’s no sales tax. A lien is nowhere near as bad as a reverse mortgage. You still own the property. When you or your hier sell it it’s paid from the proceeds.Think of the law as a protection that’s hopefully never needed just Incase the rate goes up substantially for who knows why or your property is now worth over a million in retirement. Kind of like scope. You hope to never need it but it can become a valuable protection. I don’t even live in Oregon but view it as a good law. It’s definitely not as good as prop 13 but with some of the same intent.
I stand by my claim that if a state has a tax program to place leins on senior citizens homes and confiscate the proceeds upon death, then they are setting people up for big tax increases. I hope it doesn’t happen to anyone and I understand the desire to have your property taxes “locked in” for life, but most of these plans are a Ponzi scheme and unsustainable.

Simple Google search disproves any Cali (or any other state, for that matter) has anything like a surplus. Huge unfunded pensions.

Riddle me this, how is it that I pay my share for transportation improvements driving a regular ICE car using the roads, whereas Tesla drivers do not? Pretty sure our car tire rubber wears down over time and cause the same kind of impact to roads. So I subsidize electric car road use?

I also don't see many EV people saying they shouldn't pay for their use on the roads but to pay a higher amount than what is collected by the gas tax is just a cash grab by greedy politicians.

Don’t get me wrong, I would love it if everyone drove EV’s and the US was 100% nuke power. We could tell the middle east oil dictators and russia to F off.
