Quote: Well everyone else is adding in the value of retirement plans to their compensation. I did the same with our pension. This is what you would have to have in a DC PLAN to fund the 130k annually after 25 years of service. Seems simple to me much like a DC plan
I cringe a little bit even when others post their DC 401k dollar amount, like they can withdraw the cash with no penalty tomorrow. Like you said, if everyone is including the value of their retirement plan to their compensation, then pensions should be fair game too. Not like there are set rules or anything.

Quote: Yeah, doesn’t it make sense to add outside pension money to the airline salary game? Makes for a larger number, so might as well add it

All about that final number.

Ok, I’ll let you guys continue the sausage measuring contest. I’ll leave you to it
So it’s ok for everyone to add the value of a DC plan but FedEx and UPS can’t add value of pension. Well we have both unlike the rest of the group so you bet it’s got millions in value. Do the math on what you need in a DC only plan to pull 130k a year. Then calculate what you have to save over 25 years to get the money. The pension has value which is why it went bye bye for legacies in bankruptcy. It most definitely is compensation. In fact the IRS calls it deferred compensation.

I agree with you and this is why I broke it all out individually so you can see what is W2 and what is DC and what is pension. All part of the total compensation. If it’s not compensation then why doesn’t management at DL, UA, AA, ETC just give the pilots a pension back.

Do you mean $10k company contribution to the 401k? Or total between you and them?

Spot on. I’ve seen the DL guys throwing in their profit sharing and others their contractual signing bonuses, airline pension should definitely be counted.

How did you get $10k company match on $115k income? They should only have given you like $5700.

you are taking 5% of compensation. It's an employee match. You put 20K into your 401...the company puts in 10k. We have the same very sub-standard retirement at K4. Matching the industry standard in contract 2020 is high priority.

I believe that the DC fund values are very valuable. Just because past performance is no guarantee of future results doesn't mean it's not valuable information.

I actually consider my 401k contributions to be just as valuable or more valuable than my pay. The whole goal here is to accumulate as much wealth as possible so that you can retire comfortably.
