Post Apocalyptic World
All of these things are prevalent in other advanced countries. "Bad parenting," "Mental disorders," "Lack of religion," "Violent video games ..."
These are all trotted out to explain our gun violence. But those who trot always neglect Occam's Razor. There is only one thing that differentiates us from other advanced countries -- the prevalence of guns.
Whether you agree that there should be sensible restrictions, or that we should hand guns out to every baby in their crib -- let's at least be intellectually honest.

We have more guns than people in this country, and any NY street kid of the pre-assault rifle era knows how easy it was to make a “zip gun.” That’ll remain true if the assault rifles disappear.
Clearly this cannot be ignored, but we also can’t “put the toothpaste back in the tube,” as another wrote.
So what to do? Well, military caliber ammo could be restricted. Everyone gets an annual allotment — like we are doing with toilet paper now....?
I had a discussion with a law professor once, who said “we can just make them illegal”! I replied: “Like drugs? How’s THAT working out?” He discontinued the conversation ...

Compare America today with 40 years ago. It all started with Columbine in 1999. So when were those kids born? When is the start date of the millenials? Coincidence you say
As I've said before I'm all for restricting firearm access to responsible adults. We have plenty of other restrictions on youth which don't seem to be constitutional crises.
But you cannot blanket restrict firearms from all adults, as some jurisdictions seem prone to do.
And I do get that the NRA is supported by a gun industry which wants to maximize sales and supported by some gun enthusiasts who are overly-enthusiastic. It's frankly counter-production to the preservation of our basic rights.

how do you guys see this playing out for us in the airline industry? same as post 9/11? we all just go back from whence we came with our seniority numbers and wait our turn until we can handle the big metal again? i used to fly turbo props way back in the day and i'll be honest i don't even know if they exist anymore. what are we in for? what airline is going to emerge from this crisis and be able to have some resemblance to what we all considered normal?
My opinions
1. This virus quarantine will last way longer than 3 months. Cancelled school year, kids events (Boy Scouts, etc) may require that these be performed in the summer when and if we are allowed back outside. Summer travel plans made by parents in February 2020 are drastically different today. Summer is the peak season for PAX airlines. Disney owned resorts are closed. Casinos/Vegas is closed. Etc. Remember, "summer" is basically 90 days or less. Summer travel has basically been put thru the shredder by COVID-19. It will not "look like" summer of 2019, 2018, etc.
2. "Business Travel" : If anything, the world is figuring out that maybe that meeting on the other coast or other country is not needed, and gee, can be done over teleconference. Zoom, Skype, Go To Meeting, etc. are saving jobs right now via the technology. Work from Home and Teleworking will shape and impact "business travel" forever into the future.
3. "Open USA back up" great in theory but like or not, we are a global world. Europe, Asia, India, are all closed. South and Central America is closed. Big-3 leans on international routes to keep the bank account replenished. Those routes are paused for now. Due to state, or city/county-imposed restrictions, which POTUS cannot control, the following major airports are impacted severely: LAX, SFO, JFK, LGA, ORD. Zoom meeting from home, or jack around with COVID screenings and coughing passengers ? Uh...
4. Not sure what the "revised staffing model" looks like when a 200 airplane fleet ends up with 100 planes parked in the desert. October-1 will be interesting.
5. ULCC survival: the leanest airlines on the planet are indeed the ULCCs. One model in the fleet, typically new and fuel efficient, if anybody is going to survive it will be the ULCC's, if they can find passenger traffic. Indeed their main customer is the leisure traveler. Sun County, Swift, "other" players: not sure what their future looks like.
6. SWA: In my opinion, over-hiring for the MAX, which is now delayed... then imagine in late 2020 a bunch of MAX'es show up but no pax to fill them, I think they will be challenged like never in history. They are super smart and will probably figure out (yet again) how to get thru it.
7. Consolidation: NWA/DAL, UAL/CAL, AA/TWA, etc ? Hold my hand and we get out of this burning house together, or we burn to death trapped inside as individuals ? Time will tell. I would not be surprised. Remember, these CEO's are "business people" and are in it to make money.
8. Cargo: We all know this, but cargo is typically very secure when the economy is not. I anticipate Amazon buying somebody in the future.
My opinions...

Sure, if your “standard hunting rifle” is an M14.
Most people think of hunting, things like a Winchester Model 70, a lever action brush gun, a shotgun, a Ruger Super Redhawk come to mind. What are you hunting with open sights and a 30-round clip? In .223?
Look, I love ARs and carried an M16/203 for years...almost as much as I loved my M60...great purpose-designed tools, but as a hunting rifle? Better tools exist for that IMHO.
