The reality is none of what you identified would have stopped most mass shooters, and that is the challenge. How do we do that? That’s why people focus on the weapons themselves. Maybe it won’t stop the shooter, but having to reload might limit the lives lost until police arrive. This is balanced against the benefit to society of 20 or 30-round magazines, which let’s face it, is hard to make a case for.

Of course, then we may just drive up the traffic in illegal magazines, but...
I’m sorry but my home defense handgun has a 17 magazine limit and it isn’t even extended. Do you not see how a magazine limit doesn’t effect much when it takes me maybe a second and a half to change out a magazine.

And with just a little practice, using ACTUAL clips and NOT magazines, an SLR can be reloaded rather quickly.

There’s others that can do it even faster.

I’ve got a Glock too, and it’s not much at Vegas shooter ranges. A 9mm is not as ballistically destructive as .223.

If we focus on the real issue - balancing police power and public safety v. Public utility, it’s a tough case to make.

Sure, one can argue that “it’s my 2d amendment right” or “cops get 30 round mags, why shouldn’t I”?

I’m not arguing either side of those points. But those arguments are NOT making kids safer in schools. And that will decide what happens. Because if we aren’t reasonable, and focus on solutions, eventually we will get solutions we won’t have any influence on and we may not like.

I say be part of the solution. You’re not giving up any rights by protecting kids in schools...and if you are, what kind of right would it be?

that’s why I said he could have killed as many people with a handgun if he was in the crowd... not wounded as many but could have killed as many imo.

Do what Israel does and be done with it. (Classroom)

While they are geographically surrounded by enemies, we are targets as well and soon forget it’s not just foreign as well as domestic.

Virginia was pushed nearly to the limit on gun control this year. Thankfully their patriots did not forget what their state flag represented - and that’s what it’s all about.

So you're saying a rifle round is more destructive than a pistol round? Ya think? The purpose of a pistol is to defend yourself on the way to a more powerful weapon.
