They should at least give the option to get paid the 30 grand plus stock options, OR 45 grand with no stock. As far as I'm concerned, 1,500 stock options from a start-up airline will end up worth the same as 1,500 squares of toilet tissue.

Everybody QUIT WHINING about 30K per year copilots. Most of you here have set the standard by accepting 20K per year CRJ seats.
You have openly set this standard while most of the people you graduated from the universitys with have started at 40 to 70K in other career fields. And they didnt have flight school costs/debt.
If I were managing Skybus I might be inclined to offer the same that they are.

Due to the cyclical nature of the airline industry pilot pay has been significantly reduced as of late. Regionals as well as mainline pilots are feeling the effects. Mainline has relaxed scope and reduced pay 30-40% now flying the same aircraft for significantly less. Regionals have incredible low starting wages due to mainline furloughs and stagnant growth post 911. Regional salaries are market dictated. Personally I will never fly for sky buss or va unless the wages are industry standard.
The real problem here is too many pilots. We dropped the ball by not controlling the supply of qualified pilots. Until supply is controlled this will continue. There will always be pilots willing to undercut you.
Even de727ups will have his job outsourced some day.

"Unfortunately, earning 20k per year is an industry standard."
No this is NOT an "American" industry standard. Normal industry standards for a college educated graduate who has attended some sort of professional school after college is around 40K.

Maybe you should look at yourself and all the concessions and scope you relaxed post 911, thanks for that. I would say your part of the problem. Sure wish yall would have done something to limit the supply of pilots like every other profession, then you would not have us regional pilots here screwing up "your" industry.

My hearing is fine... I had heard that some of the initial cadre at Virgin were doing some flying for Skybus to help position airplanes and get up and running. Lighten up on the caffeine... nice attitude.

IronWalt if you ask your friends in the medical and dental profession if they would do it all over again even after making 250+ a year, a lot of them would say no. I too have several friends who are doctors and every single one of them has said to me at one point or another that they would give up what they are doing to have my job flying. Why, because flying ISN'T a job, its fun, and we get paid to do it........kinda off subject, but anyway.......30K sucks for an airbus 65K is even worse for a capt. We all don't know the reasoning of someone taking a job like that but I am sure there is a good excuse, there would have to be.
