Those are the exceptions that prove the rule. In order to succeed as a flight manager, high levels of corporate koolaid must be consumed. Not saying don’t try your hand at other things, but I always encourage piliots to volunteer for ALPA committee work if they truly want to help their fellow pilots. As a previous poster said, networking is essential to getting other corporate desk jobs(read: politicking and a$$ kissing). Most pilots have no interest in that.
