Default Financial effect of current Jet A prices

Costs of increasing fuel prices. Tl;dr - not great. Assuming $4/gal Jet A. Crude is +15% already over the weekend.

Daily increase in cost, in millions:
American - $19.8m
Delta - $19.9m
United - $19.9m
SWA - $9.4m

Monthly increase in cost, in millions:
American - $602m
Delta - $605m
United - $606m
SWA - $287m

How much would ticket prices have to rise to break even:
(Assuming each daily passenger takes two days to make up a trip)
American - $64.91
Delta - $72.30
United - $80.36
SWA - $41.08

Change in fuel price by $0.10 in Jet A cost per day:
American - $1.2m
Delta - $1.2m
United - $1.3m
SWA - $0.6m

Yeah like how does this resolve itself? Do we just play Whackanayatollah for the next decade? Aren’t they all going to be different versions of the same cleric?

Gonna be cheaper to not fly the planes pretty soon. Good things airlines still hedge fuel prices.

20m of the 100m barrels a day are trapped. If this doesn't get straightened out right quick this isn't $100/oil, this is $300/oil and rationing...

Just passed $110.

What's the number that causes a global recession? This might be the thing that knocks down the house of cards that is our "economy".

Sounds about right, we were due for another huge hit to the airlines. Things have just been going up for so long

It won't resolve itself. This will end when the economy takes a full dump. Trump will then move the goalposts, pull the plug and call it MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!

Two rules of engagement this admin doesn’t seem to grasp - don’t get involved in a land war in Asia and don’t get involved in a war that blocks the Strait of Hormuz.

U.S. could use a government-backed insurance program to lower war-risk premiums for vessels in the region if prices continue to rise.

The only disruptive capabilities Iran is going to have in a few days are their kamikaze drones.
