Screwed,

We can take over at ALPA, dump APLA, fly min schedules, insist that our negotiators stop giving away scope for things we should be getting for free, fly the contract, go to court, and do a number of other things. Or, we can just sit around and complain and wait for the flight attendants to lead the way again.

But even if you do decide to just sit around and complain, with all the people leaving and retiring, you can move into a higher paying position and make what you made in 1998 or go to the 330 and not work at all.

Regardess, I know I'm not in the position to tell anyone where they should or shouldn't go to work. Things change, especially if we make them.

Even if I move to the left seat of the 320. I will still make less than the F/O pay I made before ALPA gave away our career's. As far as getting rid of ALPA. THAT is one area we can agree on.

For ATPCLIFF. This post was under the "Majors". Certainly things are worse at:
Big Sky
Great Lakes
Mesa
Trans States
Colgan
Pinnacle
Mesaba
Compass
Comair
ASA
Skywest
AWAC
Southern Air
Tri-Coastal
Air Tahoma
Skyway
Shuttle America
Cape Air
Skyways
PSA
Piedmont
etc., etc.

Now, as far as the major's are concerned. I stand by my original statement. "Best gouge is; apply elsewhere, NWA should be lower than "Dead Last "on your MAJOR'S jobs list."

Screwed,

Ask around and find out what's going on at United and their narrowbody fleet. It's not good. I'm not sure I would want to be there right now. But, right now is the operative word. That could also apply to NWA. Right now we suck. But, if we get rid of our management and union leaders, things could change. Ya think?

Hi!

OK, let's talk about the majors.

My buddy at NWA says it's OK, but that DAL is MUCH better.

My buddy at DAL says DAL is horrible, and I should go to a good airline like CAL.

I know one guy at CAL, and he said they have to do company training on their DAYS OFF, and that any vacation bid days off are subtracted from their normal days off in their monthly schedule, so, basically, they get NO vacation days!!!

I think UAL is not good, because their bankruptcy exit plan was based on oil at $50/barrel, and all they want to do is merge.

USAir has the whole integration mess to deal with.

AA isn't hiring, but they want their pilots to take a paycut!

So, NWA is way worse than any other major???

ATPCLIFF:
You asked for opinions on NWA. On this thread alone at least 2 people said it suks. Do a search on the any other thread with NWA in it and a SIGNIFICANT percentage of people posting state that NWA suks. Now it may be that the SCRWD by UAL, CAL, USAir and, DAL have not yet found this website to offer their displeasure.
Please note, THAT EVERY ONE OF YOUR FRIENDS SAID THAT THEIR COMPANIES SUK. Doesn't that tell you something about the undustry?
Granted, if you are 25 years old, by the time you reach 60 (65?) things will slowly repair themselves. HOWEVER, the major perks like pension and company paid employee/retiree medical WILL NEVER RETURN. That's happening in most other industries as well. Are you willing to go to work for US major with the hope that things will be "Happily-ever-after" by the time you retire? That's a very dangerous gamble.

If you are educated, there are excellent non-aviation companies to work for that cherish good employee's and treat them with respect and,PAY ACCORDINGLY.

I still stick by my original statement; Look elsewhere. Get a good paying job and buy your own airplane as that is the BEST flying there is!!

In closing, these posts are people's opinions. Nobody is absolutely 100% correct. There are many digruntled employees and, many like NEWKNOW, where everyone is going to be smelling roses soon. If people are P/O'd, there is a valid reason. If other people are "smelling roses" you have to decide where the truth lay.

Hi!

I used to work in higher education. I was working full time, and got a raise from $5K/year to $7K/year. I was staying because I hoped to get a decent paying full time position at the U. I was at. When that evaporated, I left.

I used to teach school. Starting pay was $24K/year (after doing student teaching, which is PFT). I basically had a master's degree, so I was bumped up to $28K. The union negotiated a new contract with, basically, no pay raises for the next 5 years.

I had a new principal who abused us massivly. At the end of the school year, 40% of the teachers didn't come back the next year (and this was a GOOD school, in a GOOD school district). She was forced into early retirement after about 5 years. I heard the replacement is WORSE!

I used to be in the AF, which was OK.

Now, I'm at an on-demand carrier. It is by far the best job I have ever had, and it is better in some ways (Health care, for one) than my CEO's Fortune 500 job.

3 of our guys have gone back (one twice) to NWA. The 2 guys I know both say it is MUCH better than my current job.

Is NWA, or another major perfect? No. But it IS a very good job, with very high pay, even relative to incomes in the US, not to mention worldwide.

PS-My buddy's brother is at Alaska. He says it's fantastic, easy, and has great working conditions. Many of the mil guys he knows, who went directly to Alaska, ***** and complain every day about how crappy it is.

Ahhh,

I never said I thought everyone would be "smelling roses" soon. I have only said that I would hope we would be willing to fight to get things back the way they were.

Personally, I see no point in complaining unless you are willing to leave or try to change things for the better. Things do suck, but now what? You don't change things for the next guys by just complaining about them or giving up.

Our management teams (and unions by giving in) have effectively stolen from us. Our pay, pensions, time off, layovers, career expectations, crew meals, and health care benefits have been taken. So, are we supposed to just let them and move on? If you think so, go right ahead. But, for me, I am ashamed that the flight attendants have more guts than us and refused to take it. I think its our turn now to stop complaining and do something.

So, I welcome anyone to return to or apply to NWA so we can picket, strike, protest, or whatever together. Don't get mad Screwed, get even.

It is far better than where I am now! ASA.....Although, I must say we stood our ground and got a decent contract. I am interviewing with NW, it is a legacy which is a better career choice than a regional.

Anyone have any new gouge other than the one on aviationinterviews.com? I know some of you are going to tell me not to bother but after spending 10 years at regionals it's a job that I very much want to be offered and am trying to get any and all info that I can to help my interview?

Applicants have to sign one of those letters that says you won't divuldge any interview info. So it might be hard to get any gouge.
