Never say never. I don't know of anyone who denies a JS due to an ALPA pin.

When I go to work I am thinking about what I am going to do for that flight. I do not carry a list and never will. If they are on the reciprocal list from the union then they go. It does seem that if you dont agree then we will punish you for not sharing our views and politics. The funny thing is some or most of the people that act in this manner were not even around during the eastern days. What you guys and gals are doing when you act in this manner is no different than the reasons for which you are denying the Jump seat.

This way of thinking hurts our pilots and does nothing positive. If you want to help our industry then support or continue to support your union while they fight for all of us for fair treatment and deservable contracts. If you continue to treat professional pilots in this manner, dont forget our industry is a small group. You never know who will be interviewing you at that next job. So you in the long run could be hurting YOU.......

I don't know about you guys, but I don't equate myself to a guy from Brooklyn working the docks.. I respect ALPA, and APA, and all they've done for the profession and continue to support them. I would be very unhappy about giving a ride to a scab, but I would keep in mind that if he's burned by me and my airline, then all pilots form my airline that come across his path and ask for his jump seat are going to be burned by him (guilt by association).

I agree with what you say when it comes to fair contracts. Who isn't for fair and honest pay? But isn't the American Airlines union asking for a 49% raise? That is absurd. That would send AMR to the tank. That doesn't sound very fair to me.

Oh, and you mentioned Eastern. I believe from my research and studies in school that the unions are a big factor in what helped send Eastern to the pooper.

Now that should open some fun conversation. I forgot that Frankie L. had nothing to do with it, and moving profitable assests to CAL. Too much education on this issue for a web board.

frank Lorenzo and his minions put Eastern in the pooper. Had Charlie Bryan not waited until Lorenzo had the company, maybe Eastern could have been saved from Frank's congressionally recognized incompetence and immorality.

I guess it depends on who's viewpoint you see it from. If you are an airline employee, you hate Lorenzo. If you are a businessman, you see Lorenzo as genious. According to wikipedia, Lorenzo was given top awards for his acheivements as an executive. Obviously the business community likes his accomplishments. I can't comment personally, all I know is what I have read.

As far as Eastern, deregulation hit them very hard and they could not compete with the new low cost carriers. They needed concessions and the unions refused and fought hard until it eventually ended up sinking the company. These new cost carriers were doing the job for way less because they had way less overhead. There is always someone that will do the job cheaper.

Absolute and utter bs. Yeah, EAL had some tough times but nothing that would have sunk them until Frankie took over. Look at the airlines he mishandled and destroyed. EAL was doing ok competing with DAL until, I repeat, Lorenzo moved all profitable assests to his now scab airline CAL. There was nothing any of the unions could do, including paying to go to work. Lorenzo was hell bent on destroying the union and if he had to take an airline down, so be it. He did it at Texas Int'l, CAL, and EAL. Remember New York Air; taking assests from TIA and moving them to nonunion NYA. Talk to the CAL executive's family that committed suicide due to what FL was doing. Talk to the thousands of families broken and destroyed after years of loyal service to a fine airline. Talk to my mailman who lost everything from EAL, who had nothing to do with unions or whatever.

In the short run, could the unions have saved EAL-maybe, but only for a short time until Lorenzo figured out a way to "starve" them again.

And he did such a good job at running airlines that he is now barred by the DOT from every having anything directly to due with an airline.

Oh and BTW, if you want to submit your own name to wikepdia and list your accomplisments, it can be done. Instead go to Amazon and buy yourself a "Flying the Line, Part II". But then again, I forget that the Harvard Biz School model is to make the most money for yourself and have no ethics or morality in business and not care what is destroyed in your wake.

Correct me if I am wrong here, but from what I read, Lorenzo built what is known as the modern Continental, which alot of our fellow pilots work for and has been voted #1 airline in America by several entities. How can that be so bad?
