Default ex-TWA pilots

Will the ex-TWA pilots who were furloughed after the buyout be recalled to American any time soon? Just curious.

Letter 3 resolution is still in the talks... apparently ALPA, APA, and both execs are close to settling outside of the arbitrator... but then again they were close to settling it months ago so we all thought.

There is a TA in the works as of this week I heard... but the details of it have not be released as of now.

Over 1900 AA pilots furloughed were ex-TWA, and approximately 120 have returned to AA. I think there are 6 more in the Nov class.

once we hit Jan or Feb recalls, it will be a huge block of TWA guys (around 1300 or so) that are eligible for recall... after them, another 385 "natives" and then finally the AE flow throughs, and THEN we start hiring.

Due to the arbitrator's ruling, I'm going to revise my prediction of off the street hiring to mid 2009 instead of beginning of 2009.

If I defer for a year or two to make sure I dont leave UPS and then get turned right back around and get furloughed, how will that affect hiring. I have my own thoughts...but love to take the backseat on this one.

I'd venture a guess that others will consider the same course of action.

Secondly, from my vantage point, many of the 2000/2001 NAAtive hires that have been recalled turn right back around and go out on mil leave. What affect will that have if the overseas conflicts wind down after the next elections.

No spears, just willing to listen to others viewpoints.

Hey AA73,
I see you're on the computer today, it's me again, the guy who panicked when I thought I saw NO Oct recalls.? Anyway you seem the most knowledgeable as far as recalls, and I saw on American Airlines profile that recalls are going to 30 a month? Should I panick once again, or should I stay off the computer and get myself a life. I'm hoping it's the latter--Thanks--

Hey FliFast:

Why the hell would you come back to AA? You make more money, your job is ALOT more stable, you don't have to deal with pax or flight attendants. If you are so set in coming back can I trade with you? Trust me as one who is on this side of the hill, stay at at UPS, your life and career will be a whole lot better.

S80,

Thank you for your advice on my career. As objectively as I can answer your subjective question.

1. I have paid my dues at the office to come back to work in STL and fly with my former TWA-ers.

2. I am at UPS, and unless your are also at UPS commuting to ANC, I'm not sure I can validate how well you know the working conditions at Big Brown.

3. A lot more stable, I thought when AMR bought the assets of TWA life would be stable. Would you like me to name the three airlines I've worked for after my furlough from American ?? In simple terms, that was two trips to the unemployment line....I think stable in this industry is a fluctuating pipe dream.

4. Why the hell would I come back to American ? To bring my expertise to an airline that refers to me as a hot dog vendor to prove them wrong.

5. I make more money. First year pay at UPS is $33.33/hr. I would return to American at 9th year pay. Will that be less ? We both know the answer.

In summary, thanks for your advice, but I have more than earned the right to choose my career path after it was pre-choosen for me 6 years ago.

Ya can't get rid of the red infection (as one NAAtive called us) that easily.

Now back to the question..how will the subtle variables I mentioned above affect recalls/hiring...variable like deferals, mil leave etc. Thank you.

Tailwinds,

FF

FF:

That is your right, and we are glad to have you back. I too was once at TWA(now based there again in STL), and you are right, they are great guys. I do think you are making a grave mistake coming back. What is upgrade time at UPS? Here at AA right now it is at around 18 years. With age 65 you may never make captain here. What happens if 9/11 happens again? The boxes keep moving, will the passeengers?

I realize that commute must be a *****, and the night flying can be tough, but I think if you are in this career for the money(like we all are now), brown is the way to go.

Good luck with any descision you make, see you in 25 years to see if either of us made the right decsion...S80(10 yr f/o and 8+ to go)
